Here's the front cover of the battery box. It's diamond plate, pop-riveted to a piano hinge at the top. What, no latch? Yes, but you can't see it. A fabric strap is pop-riveted inside, goes through a hole in the battery box bottom, and is tightened by the ratchet you can just see under the battery box.
