I used a gas spring calculator (online, metric!) to see if a single gas spring would do the job...came close, but indicated that I needed a longer stroke/longer spring than I could fit in (given the weight/size of the hatch). I could get a stronger, shorter one to fit, but that would be too strong for the wife to close....
