HOLY COWS!
Looking into the cost of this weekend. WOAH NELLIE!
Where did inexpensive camping go?

Camping fees are way-way up and State Park fees are HORRID.
If we were made of money there'd be no problem but in these ruff eco-times we're looking into other places to stay & just visit you folks.

One way or another we're :worship: to get there.

Is it possible, FULL RV in a 48 Sq.Ft. footprint & stay under 500Lbs wet?

Hey fm-usa, the camping cost is only 9 bucks per person for both nights, in the group camping site. That's a deal! Check out the first post in this thread.

I am going to be off Thursday. Was thinking of checking out the sites at Wyalusing State Park a little south of Prairie Du Chien. Over the summer I drove through. There are some awesome sites way up on a bluff overlooking the river. Great view of the sunset. I was hoping that there would be some openings for Thursday night. If not I'll get a site at Dewey Nelson. But since I can't get in the group area till Friday I thought I'd try a spot that was different.

Dennis and Faye, you are welcome to join me there if you want. If so PM me and I'll give you a phone Number and email address.

See ya all soon!

[size=117]Indubitably I did read the first post, hence my inquire into the following sites costs,
http://www.cassville.org/nelsondewey.html

We're from Illinois and Wi. State Parks has higher ‘out of state’ entrance and vehicle fees. I did look into that and was what my post was about.

You still need to purchase a $10 per day pass just to visit, so how is camping somewhere else cheaper?

Totaling up the costs of all the fees for "Nelson Dewey State Park".

For 2 people out of state and this being a State Trail park, what I'm understanding (so far) $25 per person (state trail fee), plus vehicle sticker $35 (State Park entrance fee) plus one night camping fee of $18.
 Total of $103.00.
One day pass at $10, then it's $88.00
That's still MIGHTY expensive in my book.

Understandable there are State and Federal Park costs and those costs are still being taken out of each States and Federal Taxes then add entrance fees. Hence we're double taxed.
Back when I was very little I remember a president stating, "Our Nations parks will forever be free." But I've yet to find who said that.

Camping elsewhere (Illinois) is $20 + $10 Wi. day pass, total $30

Hopefully I'm wrong on those Wi. State Park costs. :NC

In all basics, we do not stay at state parks because of those fees. I spend my $ on 'mom & pop' campgrounds. I do my small share in keeping them in business. Besides, many private campgrounds have better bathroom & shower facilities than state parks, well worth the slightly higher price.

BUT alas: "IF" and when I build my next pull-along trailer, it'll be fully self contained nearly eliminating rising campground fees.
The last stint of camping I done was $8.00 per-nite, 1990. Now I'm seeing $20 to $30+ CG's,.... sheeesh.
I know everyone's income is not rising equally to the worlds prices, they've tripled (300%) in the last 20 years, income maybe gained a meager 10%.

I'm not arguing that Wisconsin state parks are not expensive. I found that out two years ago.
I guess I do my math a little different than you, though. :)

Two days camping this weekend

Camping fee for 2 $18.00
Vehicle day pass 2 days $20.00
Trail fees for 2- 2 days $16.00
Total $54.00

Of course if you plan on coming back buy the yearly passes

OK, help me out then. I bought a Wisconsin State Park Annual sticker in the spring. I think it was $35.00. Then all I pay is my nightly camping fee when I enter a State Park in WI. I camped at this park in June of this year and only paid the nightly fee, nothing else.

So as I see it you would have 2 nights entrance fee and $18.00 for camping total of $38.00, for 2 nights.

Postby tjx » Wed Sep 08, 2010 4:18 pm

fm-usa,

Not sure what the trail fee is you are talking about, unless you are bringing bikes for the state trails system. But I'm not sure how close we are to that at Nelson Dewey. We have camped there many times and have not had to pay this fee. We have reserved the group camp site for 2 nights and the break down was $9 a person for two night or $4.50 per person per night. We are from Illinois but camp alot in Wisconsin so we already have a annual sticker.

Thus the breakdown for two nights of camping is:
2 nights camping one person $9.00 two person 18.00
park sticker for two days 20.00
Total: for one person camping $29.00 or for two $38.00

Can't get much cheaper than this. It is a nice clean park.
Usually on Fridays there is social time, beer, wine, soda and munchies.
Saturday night potluck.
Hope to see you there.

I just went by the fees on the Nelson Dewey State Park website.
Like I said, I could be wrong. I'm not a regular to State Parks due to there extra costs.

Should still be there, packing some items as we speak/write.

Good glad you are still going to join us. :applause:
Looks like some are going to be there on thursday in the upper campground, then move down to the group site on friday with everyone else. Most will role in on friday for the weekend.

We usually buy a park sticker in the spring of the year and try to camp in Wisc 3-4 times/yr. We have enjoyed their state parks for many years. Baraboo used to be a big favorite of ours because Jerry used to dive there and the kids could play in the lake. Now we like Wyalusing and Nelson Dewey, alittle closer to home and beautiful views. Hiking is nice in both parks also.

as before we look forward to meeting you.

I MUST SAY, we had a wonderful time talking with you folks this weekend. Debbie enjoyed the time with you also. As for Bailey I think he actually enjoyed it more than the Wing group of folks. He did not want to stay by us, he wanted to meander with you all.
Depending on the weather we'll try to make the next one, in 2 weeks. I'd like to see more trailers & get more ideas before tackling our Tear/Ben/Monstrosity.
The food everyone cooked was “institutely stupendousâ€
