As I am in the planning stage for the trip, I think I have found a way for my wife to join us a FCP.
Keeping in mind that although she really enjoys meeting new people, she has a limit to her camping time. Nothing any more serious than her personal limit of "Three days MAX" for living in the camper.

I'm willing to work with that. As I mentioned before, my oldest son will be having a wedding (in Pittsburgh) on June 9. I plan to drag the camper from Indiana to Pittsburgh, park it in the Hotel lot, go to the rehearsal dinner (Friday night), attend the wedding and reception (Saturday), sleep it off on Sunday morning, head out for Pulaski, NY, and then head for the FCP on Monday (June 11).

I plan to arrive on June 11 for a wonderful week of ADK camping, fishing and socializing. 8)

Obviously, that will be a lot more than Three days MAX of camping.

The plan, however, is coming together. My wife's sister lives in Burlington, VT and she is my son's God parent. When she heads back to VT, my wife will go with her. If all goes well, they will both come over to FCP on (say) Thursday and my wife can get in the camping experience within the "Time Limit".

If all does not go well, I'm not sure how she will get back to Indiana. Being a teacher, with some time off in the summer, it's not a disaster, but I will need to get back to work on June 12.

I love to plan ahead and try to make every trip as smooth as possible. My wife, on the other hand does not like to plan so far ahead. I find it a relief that we actually have a potential plan to get her to FCP and home to Indiana on an organized schedule.

I sure hope this works out (I'm confident that it will) because she has never enjoyed the spectacular beauty of the Adirondacks like I have as a child.
Wish me (us) luck as the plan comes together. :worship:

Kurt,
I am a teacher too. I hope your wife is able to make it. Its hard to admit, but I think the ADK's have fallen to my 2nd favorite place on Earth. Of all the places I have been I think Jasper Park in Canada is the most amazing place. I'm sure everyone will have nothing but praise for the ADK's, so it doesnt seem like you are just trying to get her to go. Nothing compares to the sound of loons in the morning as the mist rises above the ponds.

I live in Syracuse, and used to work in Geneva, not far from Hammondsport. We have been to at least 7 races at the Glen, but only camped there once. Most visits were day trips. Best of luck. Happy New Year. -Ray

Since FCP is a "non-hook up" park, I think I will get a solar charger for my 12v system in the teardrop.
I currently use a heavy duty "lawn mower" battery for the 12volt circuit. Normally, I use a 1.5 amp "trickle charger" to power up the battery.
Using electrical hook up is great and the generator will work as well, but what about a solar charger? Is any one using one?
Any suggestions on one to replace the "trickle charger"?

Kurt, I've got a 15w soler panel that I trickle into the battery while out. Last year for the Minden trip, I was out for 5 weeks and didn't lose the battery. When I had elec (like at Minden), I only used it to run my coffee maker. Got to have that good coffee in the morning.

Got it at good old H.F.

P.S. Say Dave, doesn't look like we're going to make it, do to commitments for the ITG the same weekend. Is anyone planning on going to the 'Pocono Get Away' near Scranton, PA the following weekend?

Aw, very good. Right now our plans are to make that gathering also after Minden. It would be nice if Mistic was one or two weeks later. But won't be able to do Mistic because of the time line. Waiting for more info from Len. So if all goes well, we'll be at Pocono. Looking forward to it. Never been that far East.

Hey Gage, I'm not Len BUT, Here's the skinny:

We will be congregated in the "Fox Run" loop sites 51-65.

According to the Park Director things DO fill up as "Fox Run" is the
popular loop, reserve ASAP! (hence the advanced notice).

http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/ ... wanna.aspx

Some electric/some not.

PETS are allowed in this loop and you don't have to have a pet to be
there.

It's a cozy little loop only 15 sites and its situated on the side of
a hill (the sites themselves are paved & level).

Highly Forested which will be nice.

It's all paved so bikes would be GREAT.

NONE of the campsites are immediate to the water, close but not REAL
close.

Nice unloading ramp & parking lot for boating.

Anyhow, I booked site #52, Len in #51 these are the 1st two sites you
see coming into the loop, so look for our smiling faces!

In addition Joseph, Kate & Sarah site #62 and Jerry & Ann #64

Cheers,

Coop

Gage, do you know how many amps the solar panel is rated at?
My electric trickle charger is 1.5 amps. I'm not sure how that relates to 15 watts. I'm any charging a lawn mower battery.

Hey Kurt... we should have our 1000 or 2000W honda by then... you can always borrow it if you like. Supposed to be real quiet!

I had a solar panel last year.. but somehow it seemed to drain the battery not charge it! :?

Thanks Dave, I have a Honda 1000i which will give me the power I need. These little things are extremely quiet, like you said.
The bigger ones are more expensive but also have a lot more uses.

I'll bring mine along, but the solar charger is a good substitute for a generator if it works. (plus - I love technology)

I wonder if a windmill would be too much? :o

My trip to FCP will start in Pittsburgh, so I figure that a good place to break up the trip would be north of Syracuse, NY.

I'm looking for good campgrounds for my stop over near Pulaski/Watertown, New York.

The second day would be a short drive (2-3 hours) in to FCP.

I only need an over night stay but would like something near Rt 81.

Any suggestions?

Kurt- The closest state park in the Pulaski area is Fair Haven Beach State Park. They do have electric sites at that park. Also in that area there is a Jellystone Campground in Mexico NY. If you don't mind driving a little farther north, between Natural Bridge and Harrisville on Rt.3 there is a former KOA now renamed North Country Camping Resort. There are lots of campgrounds along the way, these are just a couple off the top of my head.

There is also Selkerk Shores state park not far from Fair Haven. Its right on lake Ontario too. Awesome sunsets at each place!

Finally updated the participants list... did I miss anyone? Looks like Kurt will be all alone way over on 233. Hope the bears don't get him! LOL
Must have found our we're all nighttime party animals or something 8)

Well Fish Creek Pond opens in a mere 82 days! Won't be long before we get our camper out and ready. Probably will head over there in mid April to 'break in' the 40 Winker.

For anyone looking to get pumped up and overcome those winter time blues, check out our videos at
http://fishcreekpond.com/videos.html or some night time photos at
http://fishcreekpond.com/content/view/41/43/ . Lots more on our FCP site at http://fishcreekpond.com/ as well.

PS. Just remember that ice cream truck doesn't start making its rounds until July when school is out... hate to see someone decide to come, expecting nightly 'Bittersweet Symphony' or 'Mount ADK' delights.. and be disappointed
