Kurt,
Thats great that you'll be able to spend so much time up in the 'dacks. There are places you can rent canoes. Non-resident fishing licences are required.
Annual Fishing $40.00
7 day Fishing $ 25.00
1 day Fishing $15.00

Last year's gathering went by so fast, the extra days you'll have will be nice.

The pot luck breakfast was and is a great idea. See you then. -Ray

Those wheel covers are from "good old" J.C. Whitney. They are screwed on (three screws) to the rims like the old style ""Moons"

Hey Kurt,

I have 2 canoes, and maybe a tandem by then, you can borrow one if you want. Both are a bit tender, but still can be fished from. The red one is my loaner.

Hey Kurt,

Tender means "tippy". The red one is not bad sitting, but you can't stand up in it to fish. The white boat ,well lets just say it spit me out the first time I tried to get in. It's a recreational racer, fast, but not stable. I may be picking up a new tanden canoe for the wife & I ,and will bring that along ,and that should be real stable{wife says so}. I have pretty much seen Square pond & Rollins pond, We/I may be touring Upper Saranac. I would like to bring the white boat for touring, but the wife wants to see the lake,so it will probably bring the tandem, and red boat.

That's what I thought but I'm a "tenderfoot" with canoe lingo. What I mean is, I don't normally fish from a canoe. Can't figure out how the Indians made them work so well.
If things go normally, I probably won't catch many fish anyway, especially ones big enough to stand up for. I just need to get back to shore in one (or two) pieces.
The water is probably fairly warm by then and it will feel good if it spits me out.
No problem, I'm a good swimmer and I can buy a good fillet if I need one (oops- don't tell anyone about the fish market) :o

Oh Yeah, Ya gotta' have a ( at least one) pot luck dinner. The one at Minden (2005) was really fun. I made my "World famous Hoosier Jambalaya" and "Jalapeno poppers" along with celery and Mozzerella cheese poppers for the appetizers.

The excess shrimp for the jambalaya is a great appetizer also. A little shrimp cocktail anyone??

The Jambalaya might really be good over the left over waffles. That is providing there are any left over waffles. Sounds like that's under control. Can't wait to have one for breakfast.

Then again, there's nothin' wrong with burgers and brats and a good beer for dinner.
Can you tell I'm of German decent??
I'm not a German American - I'm a "Hoosier" American!!. Pork Fat Rules!!!

We can get into my history (later) around the campfire. I am of German decent, but not an original "Hoosier". I'm not really sure what "Hoosier" means. I'll have to Google it and find out.

Hoosier History (as if anyone really cares) Now now, it's always good to increase your knowledge.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoosier#Frontier_slang
Contract labor
A contractor reportedly named Samuel Hoosier preferred to hire workers from Indiana during the construction of the

Louisville and Portland Canal in Louisville. His employees became known as "Hoosier's men" and finally just "Hoosiers."

A similar story involves the National Road, which got its start in Cumberland , Maryland, and slowly extended westward as the United States expanded (now called U.S. 40). It truly was a "national" road, in that it was "macadamized" (or "paved"), quite an innovation for the nineteenth century. It was far ahead of its time, easily providing the best transportation route of its era. The road had reached Columbus, Ohio, just about the time that Indiana was in its final stage as a territory.

As plans were made to extend the highway to Richmond, Indiana, the call went out for laborers. Knowing that the federal government would pay "top dollar," the employees of a contractor in the Indiana Territory reportedly named Robert Hoosier asked their boss if they could go work for this higher wage in the neighboring state of Ohio (Ohio attained statehood 13 years before Indiana did). Mr. Hoosier gave his consent, asking them to return to work for him when this section of the road was done.

Just as in the Sam Hoosier story, the crew of Indiana workers proved to be industrious, conscientious, and efficient. The Federal foreman referred to the group as "Hoosiers" meaning they were workers that Robert Hoosier had allowed to join the national work crew. It wasn't long before people along the National Road used the term to describe the folks living in the territory to the west.

Just remember without ignorance there would be on intelligence. :o

Mr Green must have been as active as George Washinton. There is a Greenfield, Greentown, Greenwood, Greencastle and on and on.

Greenfield is one of the nicest "old" Indiana towns in the area.

I guess (deep down) I am a Hoosier since I've been here for 30 years, my kids were both born here and I'd like to retire here (in Southern Indiana, along the river).

You can go anywhere from here.
