TearJerkers NYS Chapter Spring Camporee May 15-17, 2009

Postby Rick Sheerin » Thu Jan 08, 2009 8:01 pm

The NYS chapter of TearJerkers is holding it's Spring Camporee on May 15-17 at Delta Lake SP. We will be congragating in loop C and will be having the traditional pot-luck supper on saturday nite. Any questions, you can contact me at [email protected].

Description:
Delta Lake State Park, open year-round for rest and relaxation, is located on a peninsula extending into Delta Reservoir. The terrain is wooded and generally flat. Visitors can enjoy the day in one of many picnic areas or spend time exploring the park's miles of hiking and nature trails. A boat launch, plus shoreline fishing for trout, pike, bass, bullhead and perch, make the park popular with anglers. A sandy beach with swimming in the summer and cross-country ski trails in the winter make this park a year-round outdoor destination.

Geography:
Delta Lake State Park is located on a peninsula extending from the southeast shore of Delta Lake, in Oneida County.

Recreation:
Activities in the park include boating, biking, fishing, hiking, camping, and picnicking in the summer, and ice fishing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing in the winter.

Facilities:
The park has a beach with lifeguards (open Memorial Day-Labor Day), boat launch sites, campsites, dumping station and showers, a nature trail, picnic tables and pavilions, and a playground, almost all of which are accessible to disabled visitors. The campsites, ideal for families, have quiet hours at night, and each site has a six-foot table and a fire ring.

Nearby Attractions:
Nearby are Pixley Falls State Park, Old Erie Canal State Historic Park, Verona Beach State Park, Steuben Memorial State Historic Site, and Oriskany Battlefield State Historic Site.

Arne, we have camped with our Teardrop in mid May in ADK land a few times... it can be pretty nice!

Besides... two in a tear should generate enough electricity to stay warm! :o

So Far I think Rick/Diane, Phil/Steve, Mary/Bob, Kate and I are registered. Maybe a few others now Rick?

I think there are 5 couples signed up so far,Dave.

Arne, the ice is long gone and the trees are filled with leaves and the temps are generally in the 60's in mid May.Perfect camping weather. As for electricity at our state parks some have them, some don't. You should know better, you've camped at NYS Parks before, ie: Fish Creek Pond. 8)

We're going to 'warmup' for the season by doing our earliest camping yet. Fish Creek opens in a mere 18 days. Hoping we can get the Airstream out, otherwise I do believe Kate is willing to brave those cold ADK spring nights in the teardrop. Needless to say I'll be dusting off the tear in a few weeks in preparation for Delta.

Be great to see you guys and gals again!

I just ordered new cushions for the Scamp. I hope to get it out next month and try it out. It still has a lot of work that needs to be done though.

I will still use my TD, but we bought a Scamp last year for when the kids come with us. Nate is 5, Mia is 3. We want to start them early, so we took them to Wilmington & Whiteface Mt. last Aug. The scamp does attract as much attention. I still need to get an undercover trailer. :)

Just uncovered the TD. Minor horrors. Discolored wooden sides in 3 spots, and some wind buffed marks on the aluminum from the tarp. First winter out in the open! More character I keep telling myself. I guess I am going to seriously consider building the one I have been planning for two years now, but this time all aluminum. I think I'll start after the Scamp is finished in July.

All Set for Delta Lake this Saturday night! We'll see you then. (I might bring up the TD on Friday.)
