TearDown the Adirondacks Oct 7-10, 2005

Postby campadk » Wed Aug 10, 2005 4:53 pm

REVISED: Note - we have changed the date of the TearDown to Oct 7-10, 2005 due to issues in reserving over the Labour Day weekend.

Back at the Spring TearUp in June many of us talked about having a fall TearDown at Fish Creek. Who is interested in an informal get together for labour day weekend? We are looking at Sep 2-5, probably staying 4 nights ourselves. Hopefully weather is a bit better and we can get out on the water a bit more.

Who else is interested?

We had such a great time with everyone in June. It would be great to get together again to enjoy the fall weather at Fish Creek. Kate promises to bring our new Margarita mixer...

Dave & Kate-
I'll have to check with Diane but we might be able to do a night or two.
We'll see you next weekend at Moffitt Beach. Also, did Steve tell you he'll be there on Site 228 with his family?

Hi Norm,

I'll check at Fish Creek with week (we head there Monday), but I think by that weekend we are out of the reservation window... I'll ask and get back to you. Will be great to see you too there again! Are you bringing the girls again?

We've enjoyed another 3 trips to Fish Creek since the TearUp. Been a great summer so far. Lots of fine sunsets...

Hi Rick,

Steve Fredricks is coming too? Wow! Moffit Beach is turning into a mine gathering! We're looking forward to Moffitt Beach and seeing you guys again. We'll have my son with us this time. He's one of his big trips for the summer.

It's been a crazy summer camping in NY. Guess we must love it since we just finished purchased a fractional unit (one bedroom) in the brand new 'The Whiteface Lodge' in Lake Placid. So guess we'll be spending a LOT more time down that way. We get 8+ weeks a year there. It was way to nice to pass up. We'll have to do like Diane's dad now since we'll almost need dual citizenship.

Here's the Snoozer in front of our new second home...

See you Thursday Rick!

Dave-
Your new digs at The Whiteface Lodge look pretty plush!! You and Kate aren't going soft on us are you? I would hate to see a "for sale" on your Hunter. It would truly be a sad day in the teardropping community!!!
Seriously though, I'm glad your enjoying it, Your getting the best of both worlds in the ADK's. See you next week!!

Ha ha! Someone else asked us if we were going to pack in the camping with the teardrop and park at butts at the resort instead. No worry.. you see we have it all figured out! We'll camp at Fish Creek... but if its a miserable rainy day we'll head over to the Whiteface Lodge and enjoy some luxury, fine meals and warm pools for a night or two, then head back to teardrop for some fun camping and water sports. If it gets STINKIN hot we'll head over to our place again and go skating on the outdoor year round rink (not kidding! the outdoor rink will be open year round).

If you can Rick, head up to Fish Creek before Moffit Beach. It's looking like fine weather next week. They always have a number of spots available mid week as we have found.

Hi Dave and Kate.

I think this time round it will be Jeanne and myself only, the girls had 3 trips with us this summer and are not too enthusiastic about another one...
It's been a great summer for camping this year, hope it continues well into the fall.

Well we'll be childless that weekend too Norm. Thats it! The Margarita blender will be kept hummin!

We'll have the boat there, so maybe we'll have to have the adults tubing instead of kids.

No problem Tom. That would be great if you could make it.

I'll be checking with Fish Creek today to see our best options and will post more info on here.

Enjoy Cap Cod!

Sherry and I are definitely interested! I'm not a professional stripper anymore so it may be easier to make the time to get over there. :D

Thats too bad Jon... Hard getting older in that profession huh? :D
Would be great if you too could make it! Hows the X-BB Hilton doing?

I guess I was mistaken on the reservation issue for labour day weekend. I checked with Fish Creek and they run the reservation system through that weekend. The campground is pretty much booked although there are the group of sites in the A section that are just off water that are available. Sites A003, A005, A006 and A015 are still available for the 4 days (Fri thru Mon nights).

We have booked site 196 for Sat, Sun, Mon but will arrive Fri and take whatever site is available (walkin). We haven't had problems before doing this and have always been able to get a site. 196 is just across the pond from the A section also, so we can either boat or bike over to those in A section.

Also available right now is site 230 available for Sat, Sun, Mon.

We are also planning on a 3 or 4 day trip for the Canadian Thanksgiving which is Oct 7-10.

Let me know, anyone who is booked in and your site#.

Cheers

Seriously though, your not building kayaks anymore?

We chose one of the last water sites since we have our boat. For those with Kayaks / Canoes, its a short walk across the road to put in your kayak / canoe at the end of the point. I was told by park staff that there is an area there to walk over your kayaks to put in.

Also available right now is site 230 available for Sat, Sun, Mon only. It is across the water from the A section as well.

A section is the middle section on the point on the East side of Square Pond, visible as the area just to the right of the sunset in my current avatar (oh that is useful info Dave!)

Other sites may come available due to cancellation as well.

See http://www.reserveamerica.com/jsp/commo ... index.html for the campground map and for booking (Reserve America). You can also call Reserve America at 1-800-456-2267

We'll be away for the week at Fish Creek and a few other places starting tommorrow (Aug 15), but I'll be around until about 9am tommorrow if anyone has questions.

Cheers

Hi Dave and Kate,

Just wondering, what about Rollins Pond? Is that too remote or is that also booked?

Hi Norm,

Yes looks like there are some sites in Rollins. That is another option if you want quieter. We chose Fish Creek though for boat / canoe access. I checked Rollins and it looks like most of the available sites are off water though. Many of those aren't too desirable, but you can check on the park maps just in case.
