Alaska is the reason we have a tear. but with Ken's prejudiced limitations we couldn't commit even if we wanted to. QueenieJeanne

I read this thread last month and we liked the idea of taking a teardrop to Alaska so well that my wife and I have both reserved vacation for next July to make a trip. I need to get busy and make sure I have a teardrop that is ready for this adventure.
Thanks again for the inspiration.

I looked into going to alaska a few years ago. I had the plan of taking the ferry back after the trip up. After finding out how much the ferry cost I changed my mind. They sharge by the foot of deck space taken up and you couldn't sleep in the trailer while in route. Things may have changed but I doubt if it got cheaper.

I would be up for a trip to Alaska but a month would be minum time to take in my mind.
Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.

I've been told that the two most important sites/parks are only approachable by boat (and maybe airplane): Denali & Glacier....don't know how that would work with teardrops.

Glacier would be difficult in a tear. Only so many boats are allowed in each day.

However, Denali would easily work for a tear. With exception of once a year, personal vehicles a restricted from more than 10-12 miles into the park. Only approved tour buses is they way in. You can take a day trip all the way into the camp just past Wonder Lake and back out again. It is like 12 hours, but well worth it. Outside the park are tons of camping, cabins, etc.

If you get to Alaska, Denali should be on the list. Another fun place is Chena Hot Springs (with the Ice Hotel) -- I don't remember if they have formal camping options there or not.

Cathy and I have been talking about this for 3 years now. 2010 is out, 2011 a possibility, 2012 more likely. The ferry is by the foot, and there are height restrictions, but most tears will fit in the double-level decks, but mind anything on the top of your car, a car top carrier can put you in with the trucks and motor home$. Book early or you might not get a spot.

I thought of driving up to see my sister in Tok, AK Maybe 2011 or 2012. I still haven't got my passport or enhanced drivers licence yet. Too late for this year. Also holding me back is I don't want to drive that far and back by my self. Guess I will have to work on that.
