Idaho City of Rocks, October 17-20 2019 ROCKTOBER FEST!!!!!

Postby Wolffarmer » Sun May 12, 2019 2:04 pm

This now on. A great place to camp. No reservations after Oct 15th.

Sights 24-30ish or what we can find. These are up in the City of Rocks, not the almost commercial camp ground by Almo Idaho.
$12.72/night if this is a problem let me know.
Might be able to get more than one TV-trailer in some sights.
Weather will be warm/cold/windy/calm. be ready
Bring fire wood if you can
pets on leash
kids also, but leash is up to you on those.

City of Rocks is not your normal park or camping ground. There is no campground as the sites are spread out through the rocks. Lots of rocks for climbing, Great place for kids, bring kids if you can. Borrow some if you must.

California trail went through here and can still see the ruts in places. Rocks, lots of them. World renown climbing. At least climbers to watch.

Expect a wide range of weather. I can only guarantee cold nights. Bring fire wood if you can. Be prepared for the worst. At least the road bed is pretty solid. I had no problems with soft roads when I was there a few days ago during a very wet period. If weather looks really bad I will for sure bring my Casita trailer so a bunch of us can hole up in there and keep dry.

Lets do this.

Randy

Let me know so I can get enough sites.

I would probably be able to make it for that. One trailer and a tent.

Count me in. I can come just in the pick up if space is limited, but would love to bring the trailer. It is beautiful country up there.

I camped up there a few days ago ( see the Mordor v4 thread ) Was almost desserted.

I found out that they stop taking reservations on Oct. 15th. So first come first served after that. I have camped there on Oct 31st once and had no problem getting a site. Can have two vehicles per site. Hard to tell if that means only two cars/pickups or 2 tow vehicles and trailers. Depends a lot if we do not block the road. Can probably get away with two cars/pickups and one trailer pretty easily. If the weather looks nasty I will bring my Casita, might any way. I am getting older. :x

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Is this what Utah'ns have to do to get a teardrop gathering , go to Idaho ???

Since we reluctantly passed (due to a storm) on city of rocks during our Yellowstone trip. I may have to try it again.

There is a campground there. It's called smokey mountain/castle rocks campground . Was gonna stay a night there but it was full. Stayed at Lake Walcott which was nice.

You will be very welcomed to join us.

There is camping up in the Reserve itself. There is no "Camp ground" but sites are spread throughout the area. Over 60 of them. Most are spectacular. The ones that are not are merely great.

I been going to camp at Lake Walcott but have not done so yet. It is only about 7 miles from my front door.

It's a pretty great place, I'd recommend it since your so close.
Site # 11 was a nice spot with shade.
Kinda have to keep everything put away like Yellowstone since there's a raccoon but no biggie. He didn't like our motion light , kept him at bay.
You may hear the fish splashing around near the weeds. They were pretty big but not sure what species.

Rocktober is marked on our calendar and cant wait to finally see this city of rocks.
Just got home from another trip. Doing back to back trips is hard and looking to rest for the month.
Are dog's allowed ?
Our English bulldog is quit calm and content to just chill around camp.

Dogs are permitted. Just need to be on a leash of course. And all that jazz.

See you then

My campouts are dog and kid friendly. City of Rocks is one huge play ground. Bring kids if you got them. Borrow some if you wish
