I have paper ones. I will look online see what I can find

I'm curious about the maps as well, if you have one plotted.

What is "the wall of death"?

Wall of Death. Is what I call a lava flow out there. A big black wall what goes on for miles. Can imagine when it was hot, steaming, gas bleaching, rumbling, slowly consuming all its path. It is a name all my own, I do not know its official name but can be sure it is not as colorful.

I can usually get some freebie maps at the Monument's headquarters but those are not as useful as a BLM map that costs. I have not been able to find where to order them online. In the past I have gotten them at the local BLM offices. Burley and Shoshone Idaho. Probably in the Idaho falls area also. My be hit and miss to find them but they are a good map. I have worn out several.

Meeting in Minidoka. After you cross the railroad tracks you will be heading east. in about 100-200 yards take the left fork in the road. in a bit there will be a wide spot between the road and a large lawn/ball field. We can park there and meet up. Minidoka is not so big we will miss each other. Specially any one towing a teardrop or other small trailer.

Have also put these in the first post.

Wall of Death.

I like that. Even though It's flat, there is no piece of geography that is tougher to cross than those semi-recent lava flows.

Randy:

How far north do suppose you might get? There's a little man on my shoulder encouraging me to come in from the north.

I did a bit of Googling on Baker Caves. Here's an archeological paper on the location.

Here's a paste from it:

In this paper, we begin to fill this gap in knowledge with a
study of the bison remains from Baker Cave (comprised of two chambers designated as
10BN154 and 10BN153; Plew et al. 1987), a Late Holocene bison processing site. Baker
Cave sits in large, unvegetated and difficult to traverse lava field almost a half km from
the edge of the flow and the nearest bison forage. This location suggests that carcass
portions were transported a considerable distance across rugged terrain for processing
and consumption. Baker Cave also represents a rare occurrence on the SRP, a site
producing an extensive and well-preserved collection of bison remains. Importantly, this
large sample of prey animals allows us to explore the motivations behind the use of bison
by prehistoric SRP (Snake River Plains) foragers.

Hey Tony, and all the rest.

I have communicated with a few of the Mordorites. And I see no reason to cancel this event. It is not very large event. We have lots of room to keep suspicious people at a distance.

Unless things go from terrible to a real sh** fire I say it is a go.

Tony. I am not really sure how far north we will actually get but where I am planning to go you have to go south a lot to get there. The north end of Laidlow park Which can only get gotten into from the west side and towards the southern end. Thanks for that link to that paper. I find it very interesting.

They do say the economy is going to crash before the end of the year!

Looks like they were right about the economy just a few weeks later though.

Still plan on attending. That is if I can get my Jeep back together before then...

My plans have changed too. Half marathons with 2500+ people are frowned on in the current state of the world. I'll try to be there too if our group isn't getting too big. I might take off a day or two early though.

Four weeks away. Weather is looking great. At least today it is.

For some reason I have it starting on Friday June 5 and runs for 5 days, 4 nights. I can not remember why I did that. I can stay out that long if any one else wants. Does starting on a Friday cause a problem for anyone?

Also bring a mask and be prepared to wear it if we start to bunch up. If you refuse to wear a mask for any reason then I respectfully request you do not come. Its my party. And that's my rule. I do not expect we will always be wearing masks and I know I won't but if we get close be prepared.

2nd rule. Have a good time.

See you in Minidoka Idaho. June 5th about noon.

I'm planning to go and am glad precautions are going to be taken. Way too many think this thing is a joke. I've been getting my truck ready as the trailer is still inaccessible. Being ready for a pandemic for the last twenty years, it is hard to believe I'm spending it living in an apartment.

Wolfgang, I just realized you are to blame for all of this. You replied on Friday the 13th that you would only come if something bad happens.

Crash the world economy and throw in a pandemic for good measure.  :D

Anyone else stopping short of Minidoka on the 4th? I'm looking for ideas on where to stop the night before and still make the noon meetup since I'd rather not drive off into a volcanic wasteland alone and no sense of where I'm going the next day.

What is your planned route?
