Someone at work just came back from CA, he told me that there were signs saying that the speed limit was 55 for vehicles towing trailers. Is this strictly enforced? or are you cool to move with traffic. I don't think I can stand driving that slow. It will really eat into my travel time.

If you drive 55 you'll be run off the road. I was doing 60-65 yesterday when I passed a parked CHP. I was going slower than traffic and he never flinched. 8)

Towing a Trailer @ 55 MPH

8) Hey Rocky,

If you do get pulled over by a chippy, that would be a good time to insist that it's NOT really a trailer you're towing...just an addition to your trunk.

But, seriously, you should pay SOME attention to the signs of 55 when towing, especially if you are in an orange signed construction area, (traffic fines doubled), and then use your discretion about going faster depending on where you are.

If there are a number of vehicles moving along, I say go with the flow. However, there are stretches of 101 that have lots of wide open spaces with little traffic. Many of these areas are patrolled by aircraft and CHP officers in black and white marked patrol cars.

How about some input/suggestions from you other Californians...what would you recommend? It's the speeding ticket LOTTO - you never know when your number might come up and the officer needs it to make his quota.

Safe travel,
TDN

When we travel to the Sweetwater gathering every year we just go alittle slower than the flow and have also gone 75 mph. Usually the CHP dosen't mess with you but I have heard of people getting pulled over going to fast pulling a teardrop also someone in our group got the loud speaker telling him to slow down.

Nice work Dean. Do you have a web site or is it a hobby?

8) Deaner, the trophies look stunning. Great work on the design and execution of it. A very special and unique trophy for our 1st IRG.

And, yes, he DOES have a business website.....perhaps he'll be able to update it somewhat after the gathering, but it has samples of his commercial and art glass endeavors, and I think he's darn good at what he does.

Victor,
I'm a glazing contractor by trade with a love for art glass, but commercial glasswork pays the bills... more of it out there to be had.
I tried my hand at larger art glass jobs out of the area and they were an experience of a lifetime, but when I got back... The phone didn't ring for a long time.
My website is currently off line, but I'll soon be relaunching a new and improved version.
Thanks for the compliments, they aren't top notch, but they look OK.
(I discovered that I am no longer able to get my air fed helmet on and have my glasses on at the same time, so there was a lot of guessing going on during the blasting stage)

Bill

It is about 80 miles from I-5 to 101 on 20 and takes about 1 1/2 hours without any construction delays.
