Blueberry Cream Cheese Cobbler

I normally use canned blueberries in a light syrup. My mistake was that I got blueberry pie filling which was in a heavy syrup. It still tasted good, but the cake mix on the bottom wasn’t thoroughly cooked (still powdery).

My recipe:
12" DO
1 box white cake mix
2 cans blueberries in light syrup
2- 8 ounce packages of cream cheese
1 package sugar cookie mix
1 cube softened butter (may use more or less depending how the cookie mix crumbles)
Pour cake mix on bottom of DO. Strain some of the juice from each can of blueberries and mix with cake mix. Drop spoonfulls of cream cheese all over mixture. Pour on top of this the blue berries.
In separate container mix with a fork the butter and sugar cookie mix until crumbly. Sprinkle on top of blueberries.
Cover DO and bake for 1 hour with 15-20 coals on top and 9-12 coals on bottom. Turn lid every 15 minutes ¼ turn clockwise and turn bottom ¼ turn counterclockwise. Check top of cobbler and take off some coals if it gets too dark. You can smell when it is done!

Enjoy-

Courtney!

Thanks for the recipe. It was really great although by the time I got to it there was only a spoonful to be scraped out of the oven. I'll be trying this recipe in the near future.

Oh, the last line of the recipe is really insightful. I always tell folks to use their nose when Dutch Oven cooking. When you can smell the food, it's getting close to being done.

It was great getting you meet you in person!

Look at those ingredients--how could it NOT be great!?

Except I can't get pulled into DO cooking. I got ENOUGH problems with my passions as it is.

Plus, Dean puts mayonnaise on his DO pizza, which has soured me on the whole DO cooking experience the first day I heard this.

Ira,
I am with you. That mayo on pizza grosses me out.

I think my cooking is just as delicious and not near as much hard work as dutch oven cooking.

Well...
It's probably a good thing that you two don't know what ALL the ingredients are in some of your favorite dishes at your favorite food establishements... You'd probably end up never eating there again!
I say let's put the Mayo thing to bed... to each his own and get this thread back on track... Give Courtney the spotlight and credit due for this awesome desert.
The kids and I are gonna do this one tomorrow.
THANK YOU COURTNEY!!!! :applause:

Didn't mean to bust your chops with my constant needling on this--I just think it's hysterical and have a real juvenile sense of humor.

Heh-Heh... Your words could be my words, as I too have a whacked out sense of humor, but l'm telling you... I tasted mercy's cobbler and this thread needs to stay on track. This one is without a doubt, the best desert of all time in my books.

Courtney, you just cost me $40 for a new lodge 12" DO so I can make this. Worth every penny.
I also made the blue cheese scalloped potato's I made at the IRG tonight. My new lid rest and lifter I ordered should arrive tomorrow. This DO stuff is addicting. $>
