And here's what we ended up with, Peach Cobbler made with fresh Western Slope peaches. Mmmmmmm!

Kevin, its funny you should say that because Jean and I were just talking about that. We thought we'd get started with a 10" and then expand to the 12" after we get some recipes under our belt.

Yup, all DO Dave approved equipment there. Just need to get the lid trivet and a ground cover...

You can probably hang on to the bathroom scales for a little while...
When you get into the 12", 14" or 16"... Deffinately get rid of the scales.

I still haven't bought one. I did pickup a brochure the last time I was at Sportsman's Warehouse. I have also noticed myself looking for them when I am in the store. It won't be long though....I can feel it coming on.

I didn't sit thru all the DO discussions but I don't remember much talk about their bastard brother, the aluminum DO.

Horrible Freight has the 10 incher on sale for like 12 bucks in the sales flyer.
And there is a 10 or 15% off coupon in there too.
That Maier lid lifter looks like the bomb though........gotta get one of those.

Now Stop That!!! You are making it look wayyyy too easy. Pretty soon folks are going to figure out how easy it is and all my DO prestige is going to go out the window. At least tell some tales about how you had to practice and practice before you had it turn out perfect. You want folks doing the ooooh and ahhhhh bit.

First try?!? Sheesh.

See, you don't actually have buy one. You have to camp next to someone who does have one. It saves on the grocery bill too!

I've not used an aluminum DO yet but the folks I know who use them like them just fine. I've heard though that it's better to buy the anodized ones, especially if you are concerned about aluminum consumption. As Dean was saying, they don't "season" like the cast iron ones do but supposedly they don't stick as much either. One of these days I'm going to break down and buy an aluminum oven just to see how I like it. The river rafting crowd and some of the pack horse outfitters use the AL ovens for their weight and rust resistance.

Yes, it was very tasty. We had help with our first try though, we went to a class. But, I'm sure there's a bunch of burned stuff in our future.

Thanks for the tip on the aluminum DO. I think we'll try one if we step up to a 12"
