If you really want to try solar cooking without spending a lot of money, go to http://solarcooking.org/ and check out some of the free plans for solar cookers available there.

Good lord ...

a $5 junkyard windshield, a $2 roll of wally-world-brand foil, and a $3 golf bag carrier, and they want $100 plus shipping??

People, Harbor Freight is rippin' y'all off.

Get you that roll of foil and a rattle-can of spray glue and a refrigerator box, and you'll save $80 and still have just as good a cooker.

Do they really have that much sun in Tibet? We sure don't seem to have a lot of sun in Michigan this weekend.

Maybe someone out west can test this for us! :Flippin Burger: :DOH2:

Mike, there is a URL above the pic...some history...I first saw the generator back during my commune days in the early 70's while reading Mother Earth News...the names Curnutt comes from the original developer....it consisted of 100 1' square mirror tiles, mounted on adjustable racks, a tracking device made of 2 copper tubes, vacumed down filled with freon and run to a double action hydraulic ram connected to a concentric arm...the system was a closed loop system that could generate 100psi pressure at 1000*F...sufficient to run a 25-50 horse steam engine with a by product of 600 gals of 180 degree water...the biggest problem he had was finding/building a heat exchanger that could stand the temp generated by the solar collector...he kept melting them...the full developmental info is available on a Mother Earth News archival CD from the first 10 years....

Bill that link was great. This one looks especially easy and cheap to try out. http://solarcooking.org/windshield-cooker.htm

I think I may just substitute the velcro with duct tape for the first time trying it out, that way I've already got everything on hand.

If you own a car with a dashboard -- front or back -- you own a solar oven.
If you own a hatchback and one of these shades, you own a mega solar oven.

Those pictures above indicate a good way to improve the efficiency of your existing solar oven.

Has anyone used one of those solar toasters that hold a few pieces of bread vertically?

And if so, do they make one for BAGELS?
Here we go again!
