Practicing For First Competition...

Postby Dean in Eureka, CA » Wed Sep 13, 2006 9:05 pm

My boy and I are gonna see how we fare against other DO cooks next month.
We're going to enter the DO desert competition in the Apple Harvest Festival.
I finally figured out my layering snafu for my Apple Cinnamon Vanilla-Cream Cheese Cobbler...

I really think I hit on the great flavor combo for this cobbler...

In addition to the cobbler, our entry is going to be topped off with my boy's version of Apple Pie Ice Cream.
I feel real good about our chances.
We even have a sponsor... She's going to ante up for the entry fee.
Any guess' who? :o

(We'll post our recipes after the competition)

Good luck Dean. I can't wait for the recipe to try myself.

Woohoo! Go Dean!! That looks absolutely fantabulous!! I am drooling just looking at it! Good luck to both you and your boy.

BTW, I have been stinking up my house the last couple of days seasoning a beautiful cast iron wok from China, my waffle iron and a skillet. The wok will be broken in this evening, and I can't wait.

Dean,

Go for it!!! I love the fact that it's your own recipe. Some competitions require you to submit the recipe along with the dish at judging time. If they do, you should be sure to write on the recipe that it is an original recipe that you developed. Original recipes and scratch baked goods generally get a few extra points over box cakes and such.
