Warm Drink (Alcohol, of course) Recipe Needed

Postby Roberto » Thu Nov 02, 2006 10:41 am

With the colder weather soon to be upon us, I was looking for a recipe for a drink, or punch. One that can be kept warm, in a pot or kettle, by the campfire side, and ready for sipping to keep out those chills. This should be alcoholic - - - - of course!
Any Suggestions ????

The simplest is made using a crock pot but a kettle with a large enough opening will work. Get a small orange, stick cloves in the skin. Put it in a kettle of cheap wine (good wine will be wasted), cut with water if you wish, heat and drink.

A lot of food oriented stores have mulling wine spices this time of the year. They usually require a mesh bag or tea leaf holder. I use these to simmer and make the house smell "seasonal."

Look for Tom & Jerry or hot butter rum mix in many liquor stores. Harry & David stores usually have it too. Most are fine, mix in hot water, add your special liquid and enjoy.

My liquor box always has a large bottle of black rum this time of the year.

To me nothing beats German Gluhwein, a spiced wine . Many recipes on the web, and sometimes (this time of year) you can by it pre-made at a liquor store, just heat and serve.

I got a bag of spice at the wine store for spiced wine. The recipe calls for one bottle of wine (cheap is good) 10 oz. water, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and the bag of spices. heat in crock pot. The spices can be reused 3 or 4 times just let it dry out and reuse as needed, enjoy :wine:

...hot chocolate with pepermint schnapps or creme de menthe(my wife likes HC w/Wild Turkey)...coffee with Kahlua...VERY strong coffee with scalded milk and Irish Whisky...add a little nutmeg or cinnamon...there are a lot of hot buttered/spiced rum drinks, brandy/cognac/creme de cacao added to coffee or hot chocolate

Easy... A full pot of coffee on the stove, and a bottle of Drambuie beside your chair. Fill your cup 3/4 with coffee, add Drambuie to fill...

sounds too good

Postby see2nen » Tue Nov 07, 2006 3:49 am

I'm up at 2 am here nursing a cold and all this sounds like it would cure me. I'm afraid that I wouldn't be able to force myself to go to work after a couple hot drinks.

Take a quart jar, put in one cup of sugar and 2 cups of moonshine (or whatever is available in your area, i.e. vodka).... stir, then add 4 peeled peaches. Fill to top with m/s or vodka... seal up for a couple of weeks.

You will not need to heat it. Even cold, it will heat you.... remember, heating any alcoholic beverage will 'drive off' the alcohol....

You can substitute cherries, plums, etc.. but peaches are my favorite.

---

If you can find it, some Swedish shops sell a spice package for grog. I've used it in Port wine (Taylor is my favorite). Tasty drink, but don't let it sit or the alcohol goes... I make it in a pressure cooker on low heat to preserve the buzz...

A 1/2 gallon of apple cider, 1/2 a fith of lairds apple brandy and a few cinimon sticks. Too keep you awake, lairds, red bull and cranberry is good cold, but makes you a wide awake drunk.
