Recipes that work best for teardroppers

Not sharing a recipe...

Postby Dean in Eureka, CA » Mon Nov 20, 2006 10:18 pm

I don't get it, what is it?...
Selfishness, insecurity or something else?
(In no way am I suggesting that happens here, OK?)
I guess if I were a proffesional dutch oven chef, or a MAJOR cook-off fanatic, I could equate it to being like a trade secret...
Hmmm... Century old family secret recipes maybe?

I don't have an answer for you ... but a recipe is like a song, and if it isn't shared it dies.

Dean I was just joking about my mom in the other post(really mom just joking)but I think I kinda sorta understand its kinds like the pant. process
My mother has spent years getting her chocolate chip cookies just right all her grand-kids and nieces and nephews rave about them its kinda like her legacy and when she gone somebody else in the family will spend years trying to get it just right you don't want to spend all that time and just let anybody be able to do it ,I'm not that way but I could see were other people might be then you got the people that do it for competition thats like Nasacar
if you figure out a way to make your go a little faster or a little farther on a gallon of fuel your going to keep that secret just my thoughts

I don't get it either...my Mom has a great barbeque sauce recipe that she worked on for years. I suggested that I was going to put it in the "company" recipe book that we were putting together as a departure gift for employees that were leaving for the outside. SHE CAME UNGLUED!!!!

I'm pretty sure she would have tanned my britches for even suggesting such a thing...Still never figured it out!!!!...Juneaudave

I guess if you've worked on it for what seems like an eternity, tweaking it here and there, it would be difficult to give up all that hard work.

Did someone say "chocolate chip cookies"? Now there's something I can relate to. ;) 8)

So,
What you guys are saying is, one shouldn't expect a good recipe to just be handed to them... One should explore, experiment, discovery and then perfect. That makes sense.
I was feeling bad for a newbie on a dutch oven site...
He was all excited about trying a turkey for Thanksgiving and asked for a recipe.
Myself and one other person were the only ones to offer anything up for him. My first reaction was that of embarrassment... I know there are folks there that fix some awesome turkey recipes and I got a little POed about it.
I bit my lip for a while, 'cause I didn't want to cause a big flap and then Brick sent me something I shared instead...

Well,
Thanksgiving is only a couple of days away and I'm very sorry more people haven't submitted a good recipe for you...
Maybe it's a trade secret kinda thing, or something, 'cause it seems that recipe sharing around here gets a bit constipated at times.
I did come across another one though that you may like...

Here's a great recipe for making your Thanksgiving Turkey the best tasting and most attractive ever. Since Thanksgiving Day is my favorite day of the year, I'm looking forward to trying this!

Rub butter or oil over the skin of the chicken/turkey until it is completely
coated.

Sprinkle with salt and pepper and any other seasonings you prefer.

Take a knife and gently separate the skin from the b r e a s t meat;

Slide 1 large lemon half under the skin of each b r e a s t with the peel side up.

Cover and bake for 30-45 minutes. Remove cover and continue to roast until juices run clear, basting every 15-20 minutes.

If you've followed these steps correctly, your turkey should look like the
one in the picture below. Bon Appetite!

OMG What are you up to?

Postby The Teardrop Nanny » Tue Nov 21, 2006 5:07 pm

 My dear Dean,

What have you been uP to since I've been away?
Are the kids OKAY? How about the animals??
And to think you told me Dutch Ovens were part of your normal life and "really a lot of people had more than 22 of 'em in their collection"....

I am so slow sometimes !

It's probably just as well that I'm not there to see all this cooking. And I better not see ." it " in a Teardrop Thong on the next post round......

xoxoTDN :R ;)

22 dutch ovens???... I only have 15.
I've talked about maybe someday getting a 22" Maca, maybe that's where you came up with the 22?
Thong???... That's Guy's department.
