Earl's (Loader's) Meatballs Live Again

Postby Ira » Tue Dec 19, 2006 10:09 am

Well, today's the day of my office pot luck, and for once in my life, common sense prevailed:

I'm making Loader's famous meatballs and not bull's balls. (I couldn't find them anyway.)

But hell, this must be a regional thing--I can't find plum jelly anyway. (Granted, I didn't try Wal-Mart, but one would think that either the regular supermarket or gourmet chains would carry it. I guess old retired Jews don't eat much of it.)

So I'm using sweet orange marmalade instead--and if anyone doesn't remember this, this is the easiest, coolest thing to make.

Small frozen meatballs (I used homestyle, not Italian) in crock or slow cooker. Add jelly/marmalade, equal amount of ketchup, turn knob to "on." I'm adding red pepper this time to kick it up.

Does it get any easier than this?

I know many of you are disappointed that I didn't do the bull's balls--but none as much as I.
Here we go again!

OOOOH!!!! Thanks for reminding me!!!

I work with a great Dominican girl who I speak Spanish with. "Bolas de vaca" sounds great!

Or go even further and say "testiculos de vaca."

Ira, don't you mean Outlaw's Meatballs?

I think we had this discussion once before?

As much as I would love to take credit for the recipe, this one's Outlaw's.

BTW - I agree, give them some "unique" name.

My recipe calls for whole cranberry sauce. I'll have to pass the credit along to someone else :)

I'm just curious to hear what other secret ingredients Ira will be adding

Ok Eric, I though maybe he was modifying your's. Either way, I bet it will be pretty good Ira!

Anyway, I did a little Googling, and found a pretty good listing of meatball recipes:

They really went over well--and it wasn't like they were just being polite or anything.

But when they asked for the recipe, they were surprised that it was just ketchup and sweet orange marmalade, and a little red pepper. And I told them that if they could find plum jelly, to try THAT.

What's interesting about the orange marmalade, which I basically just made up because I couldn't find the plum, are the small pieces of orange in there. Makes it interesting,

Sounds yummy. Orange Marmalade is orange peel candied with simple syrup.
