Recipes that work best for teardroppers

Postby Laredo » Tue Jul 10, 2007 10:22 pm

4 cups cold cooked rice
2 large bell peppers, seeded and diced
1 can crushed tomatoes
2 onions, peeled and coarsely chopped
1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 cans luncheon meat, cubed 1/2''-size
salt
pepper
garlic powder

In a cast iron skillet heat the oil; stir in onions and peppers and cook until onions are clear.
Add spam and rice and cook, stirring, another 3 or 4 minutes; add crushed tomatoes and heat through at medium-high. Either serve now or cover and lower heat until all liquid is absorbed (tastes better). Season immediately before serving.

A meal that I grew up with involved Spam. When my mom worked late (she's a nurse) and dad was just too tired, he would fry up some Spam fix a box of Mac-n-cheese. Put the Spam on crackers...mmm...mmm...good. I don't recommend Spam as a regular part of any diet! However, I ate it when I was a kid so guess what? That's right, Stephen is learning the joys of Spam too! He and I have every weekend around the house to ourselves (Carla is a med tech, works on the weekends) so I'm working on his bachelor skills. Gotta start 'em young!

One of my most memorable camping meals. Christmas Eve at Rock Hound State Park in NM. Egg Beaters smothered in colby jack cheese, topped by a SPAM single. Yum. 8)

Nice View Scooter!

I used to make something I called spammacon© I would slice into strips and coat with a few drops of Sriracha sauce. (hot sauce) and fry it for a while and then cook for several minutes in a microwave till it came out like crispy bacon. It was good and popular with fellow campers. I don't remember cooking times but will have to try and duplicate the process sometime soon.

1 can Spam
1 can creamed peas
1 can creamed spinach
1 can Brussels sprouts
1 can succotash
1 small jar of Miracle Whip

Combine all ingredients.

Now that you've got all that crap out of your galley, throw it in the dumpster and grill up a steak!

Yeah, we call it rooster sauce. It really is good stuff. The smell of it frying on sausage in the morning is pure heaven. Frying anything set off the smell and flavor. I love the dang stuff. We go through bottles of the stuff. It all started when I tried it on my terriyaki.

Haha..

I don't eat Spam too much anymore. But it brings back memories of being in the Army. Spam was a delicacy when you have been eating C-rations for a few days..

It came in a giant can like the ham at the deli counter!

Mary K, What about Spam don't you like? The fat, the salt, the preservatives, the taste.??

Spam is (to me) a great taste. It probably is really bad for a healthy diet, but, in moderation, how bad can it be??

BTW, I like Spam well done.

Funny, I prefer Hotdogs well done, but burgers " medium rare"
 I don't know why! :o

 :rofl2:

I do like Spam. I was just quoting a skit from Monty Python...

I thought it was funny to keep saying it through out this thread, because the lady kept saying in the skit.

Here is a Video Link to the sketch. http://tinyurl.com/2owtup

Enjoy,

I see what you mean. It is a funny skit   I never got hooked on Monte Python although they did have a message. It seems the unpopularity of Spam is quite popular. :o

Spam Salad

Postby SteveH » Sun Sep 02, 2007 10:24 am

I make a Spam Salad that's great for sandwiches. Just like Tuna Salad, but with Spam. Tastes like Ham salad.

1 can of Spam put thru the blender
5 hard boiled eggs diced up fine
6 sticks of celery diced
4 tsps of dill relish
5 slices of pickled jalapeno diced
3 tsps of diced green olives
4 Tsps mayo
1/2 tsps mustard
Salt and Pepper to taste
