HOME MADE SYRUP

Postby Eunice » Sat Aug 11, 2007 11:09 pm

I make my own vanilla.

DUTCH HONEY SYRUP
1 cup sugar
1 cup Karo syrup
bring slowly to almost a boil
1 pint whippipng cream
1 to 2 teaspoons vanilla. (depends on if homemade, real or imitation)
Do not bring back to a heavy boil because it will crystalize the sugar when you put it in the fridge to cool.
keeps well in the fridge.
this also freezes well.
TRUST ME THIS STUFF IS GOOD

Thanks Eunice,
But are you sure you want to be letting this info out just before the PREMIRE waffle cooking event on the west coast…IF not the world?

I'll experiment with the recipe to see if I can figure out the secret step you didn't disclose (nudge, nudge, wink, wink, know what I mean?...)

I am so sorry that I am going to miss the waffle shoot out!
I hope people like the syrup. Kenny and I really do. Maybe it will be what puts it over the top. Let me know if you figure out a secret ingredient.

thanks Barbara. I hope other people like it also.
I have kept this to myself for years but it is so good that I had to share. I put mine in two person servings and freeze. It will come out of the microwave just fine to warm it.

I make ours using this recipe:

sap from maple tree
one tap
one bucket
one pan
good fire

boil sap in pan over fire all day until it's syrup. Good over pancakes and vanilla ice cream.

Eunice, I tried out my waffle make last weekend. So I went out and bought the supplies to make this. Saturday morning should be hot waffles and homemade syrup.

I will be in LaPine Or Saturday at the IDOS. Remember not to boil it too hard. Hope you like it.
ps When I get back my brother and I are both going to put together our DO cook tables.

I wish I could make it down there for the IDOS. I have a family commitment Saturday and a poker tournament Saturday night.

Good luck on the DO table.
