Does anyone have any pan fried chicken recipes for a dutch oven? I guess a better question would be how to I make pan fried chicken, never done it before, but sounds like it would be delicious while camping. Can I use shake and bake?
Thanks
Aaron

I think my oven fried chicken (not really a recipe) would work (I haven't actually tried it in a DO, but I can't imagine that it wouldn't work). You'd melt some butter in the dutch oven--maybe about 1/3 of a stick. Put some flour in a ziplock bag along with salt, pepper and seasoned salt (like Lowreys, but I use all sorts of things). I usually put in about 3/4 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp of the other seasonings to one cup of flour. Rinse off the chicken pieces and wipe with paper towels. Toss a couple of pieces at a time into the bag and shake until covered, then put skin side down in the DO. Bake at approx 400 degrees (whatever method you use to reach a high temp), then turn the chicken and bake another 30 min. doing the 1/4 turn idea every 15 min. Yum.

Camp Cook had a contest on fried chicken a couple years ago. ...Lots of recipes and ideas. The recipes start near the bottom of page 4 in this thread:

Oh, good, Joannie! I wondered how to find yours easily.
...Didn't know I could click on the black pot! Now, I know!
Good idea! :lightbulb:

PS. When you go to their website, scroll down to the bottom on the right side and then click "Load More". After that, the chicken recipe will be the last one in the list. (That's if it works like it did for me.)

We always just use a skillet and it turns out fine. And no we don't use shake and bake.

Here's my way to fry chicken in a dutch-oven 1st you get the ingredients and a brown paper bag or gal freezer bag and a 12" DO

2 c flour all perpose
1 tbl baking powder
1/2 tbl blk peper
1 tbl salt
2 eggs
1 c milk
1 splash of water
1/2 -3/4 " of oil in DO

Put flour, baking powder, salt, and peper in bag shake well. Put egg, milk, and water on a pie pan mix well. Take chicken put in bag shake it well and then take it out of bag and dredge thru wet stuff. Put back in bag some like to have 2 bags to avoid cross contamination. Put it in DO 15 min with oil at 350* turn over and cook 15 min check thigh it takes longer that why I put them in 1st and take them out last. And I like a 1/2 tsp of cheyanne pepper in my 1st bag of flour.
