turk in a do. this weekend charol style!

well its time to use a `10 lb turkey up and its not a turkey breast its a hole turkey. we are stuffing it this evening or tommrow on sunday into a 12 inch dutch oven and then yea using brickets and bob henrys style of dutch oven table we built for ourselves and good old kingsford to try to see

how turk in do works out!

we will post the results later after the turk is ate!

Good luck Slow. That is a lot to stuff in a 12 inch. If you have a kettle style charcoal grill, you might consider Spatchcocking the bird and cook it indirect. To do that you cut the breast bone out and flatten the bird. Like a butterfly. You need to press down on it to break the back bone. Then the bird lays nice and flat. Start the coals and after they are ready move them to the outside and put the bird not directly over the coals. Some olive oil and salt and pepper the bird before tossing it on the grill and let it go. It will cook much faster then a whole or stuffed bird will.

Give it about 2-3 hours slow !

Having cooked several both ways I think Woodbutcher is on beam. A Smokey Joe JR style charcoal grill with a big stainless steel mixing bowl filled with a bit of water under the bird and the charcoal as an outer ring makes a beautiful bird. What I missed by using the D.O. was that wonderful smoked taste and smell.

interest! I need to buy a 2 turkey now! guys! and yes. I have a smokey joe gold grill I have put to use this summer too! I seen on a old post that a woman done what I am going to try this afternoon in a 12 inch with a 10 lb bird and split the bird and stuffed it in. and she showed photos. so will will give that a try first. but up next is buy another turkey and grab the grll like bob and steve said and give that a try to!!!! bob I never read your post before a meal or waiting on a meal...........that stuff makes me very very very hungry!!!!!!!!!

I'm with woodbutcher, spatchcocking is the way to go:



We do spatchcock chicken on the grill all the time and it comes out juicy and delicious.

P.S. Spatchcock is also a stripper move so don't be surprised if you find something unexpected when you google it. :shock: :lol:

total success! I cut it up in pieces and it was done in 2 hours. kept the chachoal hot on the dutch oven used a bob henry sattalite table and license plates wind screen. kept charcoal ready to go on a
small barbeque grill nearby a gas one and fed charchoal and had a miller lite. talked to friends on the phone and yea facey book saw the photos of it. it all was good to eat and nice and brown.

works wonderful! took it out when edges barely showed any black and done on meat thermopter...........

Well. good work Slow. Now you have something else to cook at the next gathering! If you keep practicing you will be able to do a Dutch Oven seminar too.
