Recipes that work best for teardroppers

Courtney,
I haven't braved the way of the tomato yet, but I've read that it's a good idea to coat the oven with oil just before doing stuff with tomatoes... That way the acid from the tomatoes eats at the oil instead of your seasoning.
(Makes sense to me)
I'd just add more seasoning and see if that does the trick.

Note: the pottery kiln is NOT a good substitute. You can melt cast iron...

Are you speaking from personal experience? Just how hot does a pottery kiln get?

how hot's a kiln? depends. Whatcha firin'?

But no. What I melted was, alas, a fairly nifty piece of ceramic lace.

(buy or crochet lace. Dip it in slip, let dry. Repeat, then fire. ... makes a nice contrast trim.)

I read the above threads about using tomatoes in your DO. So, the consenses here is you can cook tomatoes (stew, lasagna, etc.) in the DO, but you just got to insure it has plenty of oil in it before and after it's used?

My wife makes spagetti in my 14" CI skillet all the time, just rinse it out with hot water afterwords, never been a problem.

...same here, I cook spaghetti sauce, chili, and other various cajun, tomato based sauces in my CI all the time...just wash and put back on stove to re-heat and wipe some oil onit...good to go
