I purchased this small cast iron piece about 3 years ago. Have not been able to find out any info on it. It says HOT POT on the lid and the bottom is marked Wagner Ware, Sidney and 1362. Diameter is 5". Any help greatly appreciated.

Looks cooool! Just make sure it wasn't used for smelting, melting lead etc. I have a small pot like that that sits in another cast iron pot that was used for melting lead, no cooking in that puppy!

I had not thought of that. How would I tell if it had been used for something like that?

It looks like a "simmer humidifier" -- old-school, not the enameled ones you can buy now that are like heavy "spaghetti pans with locking lids as seen on TV!!!"

When I was a kid my mom kept a Folger's can half full of water on top of the heatstove (which was not the same as the cookstove) all the time to humidify the household air.

Her mom had a cast-iron teapot-looking thing for the same purpose.
