Hey, that Dutch oven stuff really works!!

Postby Dean Williams » Mon Jul 10, 2006 10:30 pm

I went on another little camping trip last week and couldn't wait to try out my new (and freshly seasoned) Dutch oven. I love pizza, so that's what I tried first. Figured if I ruined so bad that even I couldn't eat it, I could alway pop open a can of chili.

I mixed up the dough, (I used packaged stuff) while the oven was heating up following directions I found here for approx temp.

I got to the campground late, so everything was done by Coleman light.

Taking a peek. Looks done to me.

Next day, and a new campground, I tried bisquits just to see if it worked
like it's supposed to. It works!

How fun is this!?!
:D

If you slopped mayo on that pizza, our relationship is ended.

Dean, using the foil is a good idea. Did the Pizza brown on the bottom also? Looks great.

Noooooo. Mayo is not for pizza! At least not for mine. Everyone knows that mayo is for sandwiches and artichokes! Good on lots of other stuff too. Not pizza.

Yep. In fact it got a bit too "golden", but not burnt. I found that I need to put the coals only around the outer edge of the bottom of the oven.

Ira, let it now be known, that I am officially coming out of the closet. I don't like mayo at all. Not on artichokes, not on sandwiches, not in potatoe or macaroni or tuna salad. I HATE mayo!!!! :o

However, I really, really, really do like my MIRACLE WHIP. Ok, so now you all know.

Stan,
I think you hit it on the head.
All this time, Ira and I've been going at it over mayo...
He's probably a Miracle Whip person and just didn't mention it.
I mean afterall... There's only two kinds of people;
Mayonaise people and Miracle Whip people.

Augh.

Miracle Whip is mayo with an extra egg white and a pinch of garlic and a pinch of cayenne.

You want good?

Deep dish apple pie topped with sour cream.
Yum.

Dutch oven

Postby Roscoe » Tue Jul 25, 2006 6:40 pm

Hate to get off the MAYO vs MW battle but here I go.

http://www.idahorapids.com/cuisine.html

I rafted with these folks a few years ago. They cook for 24 every meal on multiple Dutch Ovens. Things you wouldn't think about being possible in a D.O. Very good recipes in this book.

But I like MW & MAyo.
