Miracle Whip vs Hellman's

Postby sjptak » Tue Jul 11, 2006 7:43 pm

I don't know, call me wierd. My wife does. So do my neighbors. I do not like mayo. I DO like salad dressing.

Did you ever compare MW vs HM?

Here we go:

First 3 ingredients for both are water, soybean oil, and vinegar. After that it changes a bit.

Hellman's has Modified corn starch, whole eggs and egg yolks, high fructose corn syrup, salt, lemon juice, an a bunch of preservatives and "stuff".

Miracle Whip has high fructose corn syrup, modified food starch, sugar, salt, eggs, egg yolks then nothing but spices and preservatives.

Interesting is the nutritional facts, at least as printed on the label. A serving size of MWi is 15g, while Hellman's is 14 g. MW has 40 cal per serving while HM has 45. Cal from fat: MW has 30 vs 40 for HM. Total fat - MW is 3g an HM is 4.5g. Sat fat is 0 in MW while HM has .5g. Transfat is 0 in both. Cholesterol is equal.

I think all this is pretty equal with the Miracle Whip (salad dressing not Mayo) being a hair healthier.

Of course, I just saw my Dr yesterday and he said my Cholestoral is 251 an my TriGlycerides are off the scale. Boy, what a dumb post. Nothing more than a silly rant, but there it is.......

If you read the whole thing, well, more power to ya.....

Stan, don't feel bad, it's all a matter of taste, My wife likes MW better (because her Mother did) I like Mayo better (because my Mother did). As you mentioned, the health benefits are slightly better for MW but how much would you have to eat to see the difference?? We have both in our house.
P.S. I've never had it on pizza, but it's not bad on Italian sausage.

My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts (but who doesn't?) because I prefer Miracle Whip over Mayonaise. She grew up on Mayo and I grew up on Miracle Whip. Just that simple. I can't stand the taste of Mayo...........too rich, like circus peanuts are too sweet. So now we have two jars in both our refridgerators...............His and Hers.

Hey Chris... ever try a peanut butter and bologna with lettuce sandwich? That’s weird, but I got desperate ( only ingredients around ) many years ago and it's not that bad  . Danny

I like Hellman's.

High 5 on the Triglycerides. Even though my Chloseterol is OK, my triglycerdes are off the chart too. It's probably hereditary because my dad is the same way. I try not to put mayo in things though. When I go to Chick Fil-A they have the light Hellman's which is OK. I usually only put 1 stripe on my sandwich though.

Notice that they both have High Fructose Corn Syrup? Just about everything nowadays has High Fructose Corn Syrup in it. I've read that it is worse for you than sugar. I don't remember the details but it's something to the effect that it lacks the trigger for your body to produce insulin to metabolize it. In other words, it makes you fatter than sugar.

Mayo all the way, and make it Best Foods, please. Miracle Whip? Bleck! The only miracle in Miracle Whip is if you could get me to eat some.
Rising from the dead, now that's a miracle...not that stuff in the jar!

Unless something has changed, east of the rockies, Best Foods mayo is Helmans.
Only Helmans in our house. Well, that was until my wife discovered Trader Joe's and Wild Oats. I never no what kind of organic treat Im gonna find in the pantry.

But if you want to get a real argument started, lets talk ketchup:
Heinz or Hunts?
