Want one!

Postby kmboutside » Sun Jul 17, 2005 10:58 am

I'm new to all this tear drop excitement. I'm looking to buy one - have no desire to build one on my own - don't have knowledge, tools. Can anyone suggest where to start. I live in the Chicago area (not for much longer - thank goodness). Most of sites I've found are for kits and are far from me. Do these wonderful trailers ever show at an RV show? Thanks.

All I had was the desire...

kmboutside,

I was pretty much in the same boat as you only I would add 'no skill' to the list of things that kept me from building. I purchased a Hunter Shadow. Here is the link: http://www.mrglobal.com/teardrop.html

Don't "should" on yourself, there are plenty of others who will "should" on you for no reason. Accept what you did and move on. Life is too short.

Steve,

Checked out your website. If you don't mind, how many custom woodies have you sold and what kind of price are you getting? I am 95% done with my first and seriously considering building to order. You can ppm me if you prefer. Thanks!

John, I've built three.. The last is the best so-far..I really like Mike's design!! I took more time on the amenities. I had the first on E-bay for a week...never made reserve.
The problem I've seen is that, most folks like the looks of the woodies, but don't appreciate the work involved to produce a quality job. These campers are something better seen first hand, to really get the "feel" of what your buying.
I believe that I'm building a product that is on par with the better aluminum-clad Tears. Guys like Cary,( Camp Inn) have a great product and reputation..I just need to build up to that reputation.
I know that when folks get one of my Tears, they will be happy...Or I'll work my heart out to make them so!!
At last count, I've had over 200 inquiries...no $$ yet though.
I could sell trailers all day for 3,000 or less, but, the woodies are more labor intensive, and sell for more. I'm thinking of building the 'Diner, or other design, in aluminum just to see how it looks, and what I could sell one for.
BTW, The reserve for the Stripper was $6,500. I have someone who wants it, but lacks 2-k to make the deal. We'll see!!
So-far, I've been building for the fun of it......I guess I'll start giving them to my kids!!

My daughter was the first to get a "surplus" kayak...She already has her hand out for a Tear. Guess I'll have to build one to tow behind a Honda Civic??
