Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum, and look forward to meeting you all soon.

I've booked the Pinery, Dunes area 3, 225 for the weekend of May 18th, ling before looking at the forum. Will be sharing with my brother-in law who is in the process of building his own TD. Lemmme know if anyone is open that day, or Algonquin later in the season...

Hi Atactic.
Welcome to the forum. There is a small group of campers from southern ontario that post their schedule here and at the Tear Jerkers site. If you don't like to camp alone you'll usually find one of us posting about an upcoming event ... and most of us are fairly friendly.

Sandy,
Thanks for the tip. Looks like a gathering in Elora in May I'll probably attend

Only place we have a diffinit plan on being at in 2013, at the Quigley Shoot over fathers day weekend. I'd post a picture of last years campsite at Quigleyville, but I haven't got that part figured out just yet. I have a pic posted in my gallery though, if that helps. As for camping for the rest of the year, that's still in the planning stage.

Just wondering if anyone else was thinking of coming up to Charleston Lake Prov Park May 10 ... if it helps, I noticed on the Ontario Parks site that this park is not listed as one of the "alcohol restricted" parks ... just in case that was holding some of you back from making the decision :) :wine:

Only five more sleeps 'till the camping begins...no other takers on Maureen's offer of Saturday potluck? Remember this was the same woman that came up with fresh made brownies on a camping trip...

The Globe and Mail just ran a two page spread on the National Parks having fewer visitors in the last couple of years and they are getting federal funding cut...let's not give the provincial government a reason to cut/close our provincial treasures. Same as always, 'use it or loose it'. These are our resources to enjoy and pass along to our kids and grand kids. Let's ensure that's going to be possible...come out and camp.

Not trying to start any political debate here...I don't think I trust any of 'em.

It is happening provincially too - friends of ours always like going to Mississagi up by the Sault because of the night skies being so fabulous (no light pollution from neighbouring towns so it is great for sky watching and night photography). It is now closed to camping as of this spring. Sandy is right, all forms of govt are making cuts to funding and our parks are an easy target

Booked the kids into 306 across the road from me. They are bringing their dog along for the weekend.
Fingers crossed for the great weather to continue.

Four more sleeps.

We had a great weekend of camping despite the inclement weather ... thanks Sandy for picking another beautiful Provincial Park.
Here are some pictures:

Image
MountainBiker and I arrived first - we had pouring rain for the entire trip which slowed us down
(5 hours to get there from Burlington) but once we arrived the rain stopped and we got set up without any problems.

Image
Sandy arrived a couple of hours later and got settled in.
Sandy's daughter Elora, her boyfriend Phil and Phil's brother Curtis also came and they set up across from Sandy in tents.

Image
Sandy beside the newly acquired awning tent - beautiful as it covered the entire teardrop
and still left room for some chairs for when the rain came down later Friday night.

Image
It poured rain all through Friday night and into Saturday morning but then it cleared and was just a bit on the cold side.
Me on Saturday afternoon - attempting to make home-made brownies on my Cobb charcoal bbq - it is a work in progress! At least they tasted good!

Image
Saturday - Andy (MoutainBiker) taking it easy - bundled up but look at that patch of sun!

Image
Saturday - Sandy taking it easy after a hike with the kids.

Image
Hannah found the sun too - but was ever watchful of Sandy's camp site in case someone might be coming over and say hi to her!

Image
Saturday night pot luck - yummy! The night's menu featured chicken.
Sandy made delicious chicken stir fry with noodles. We made chicken caesar salad.

Image
Sandy's famous dutch oven dessert cake was the best!

Image
Elora, Phil and Curtis chowing down on supper -
Bravo to them as they survived the rain storm and cold weather in their tents!

And on Sunday we left around 12:30 and the outside temperature was 11 degrees C and a few hours later near Whitby,
the winds were fierce, the temperature had dropped to 3 degrees C and we hit rain, sleet and hail as well as a bit of
snow on our drive back home ... a true Canadian spring!

Sandy love the new awning. Sandy did you get to go kayaking? Like the photo of Hannah what kind of dog is it? " WOW" can't believe it's 11 more days for elora gorge . Too bad the weather :rainy: wasn't better for you. It wasn't much better around here either.
