"What was the hardest part of your build?" thread.

Sometimes building a teardrop can feel like you're climbing a mountain while wearing lead boots and a blind fold. 8)

In looking back, what was a tough part? Photographs if ya got 'em. :pictures:

I would have to say the forcing myself to stop every now and then and not work on the camper for a day or two, just to reset the brain and give the old body a break.

This has become one of the most enjoyable things I have done in a very, very long time. I love watching the ideas come together. It isn't all smooth sailing, as there have been a few rough rides and will be more, but for the most part it has just been fun!

This website has been a life saver. The people are fantastic! They don't mind giving their mind either and I appreciate that.

So far the hardest part for me is trepidation. Just a general fear that I'll mess it up. I'm getting past it by telling myself that I'm basically a kid building a tree house. Somehow that makes things easier. Physically this has been difficult for me because I'm not really built for manual labor. Moving large pieces of plywood back and forth was extremely difficult. My body is more built for endurance than strength. So I've pretty much sworn off building another camper till my boys are old enough to help.

Installing a queen size pillow top mattress in the tiny trailer.

Here is my secret in this pic..........Image

Note the front of the lexan roof is not pulled down into place yet. I had to wrestle the mattress thru the open slot under the roofing and drag it into place. I guess if it ever needs replacing it will be reverse engineered the same way

With a full time job, for me it's having enough time to keep going on the build. I have to chop things into shorter tasks than I would like, but there is an "up" side to this. It gives me more time to think about the build and map out better ideas while I'm working. The planning is going very well, because I have limited time to do the actual building, so I guess it's a fair trade.

All in all, I'm enjoying this build more than I have anything else in years, and am looking forward to actually being able to use it for trips when I'm finished, if that ever happens. Glad I set a schedule of 2 years for completion, I'm still on schedule!

The time you spend planning is more important than the time you spend building.........

+1 (My two year build turned into a three year build. Of course, that's the 95% complete stage. I still haven't finished the other 5%.)

Gluing the inner and outter skins of my sandwich walls and getting it to stick well. Had to go around and inject and clamp a lot of areas after the initial gluing. I wish i had one of those big 1" thick solid steel plates they use on roadways durring construction to set ontop of it while the glue set.

For me it was the radius on the curves.... and then getting the plywood to work! Main reason I didn't curve the back....

Realizing it will likely never be "finished". OK it is finished but there is always room for "improvements", not to mention fixing mistakes.

Putting the RV doors on. They shipped with a bad batch of stainless screws, so I was twisting the heads off with my battery drill even at low RPMs and had to remove the doors several times to remove the broken screws.
Found out to use plain steel screws instead, all was well.
