It took 1 gallon of paint to cover the teardrop minus the hatch.
It's has a texture, like the walls in your house, that have been painted with a roller. That's probably because I used a medium nap roller. I also used a polyester roller, and got a lot of fur balls in the paint.
I talked to the manufacturer today, and it appears the roller disintegrated. He recommended that I sand smooth, and use a solvent resistant roller with lambs wool.
I tested the sanding part this evening. It sands nicely. The paint is soooo hard that the fur balls sand right off! I tested it with a drywall sanding sponge, and also a random orbital sander and 60 grit sandpaper. Both worked well.
Hoping to get out soon and finish sanding so I can get a second coat on it. The second coat should be a lot smoother (flatter) due to the shorter nap on the roller. At this rate I should be able to get my stickers on it pretty soon, eh?
I really need to work on the hatch though. I got all the ribs in now. Just have to sand it and glue some skin on.
I can tell I'm getting closer to the end. All I want to do is camp!!!
Mike...
P.S. 2 gallons to cover a teardrop with 2 coats is a pretty inexpensive way to finish it!!!
The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...
