Easy to use photo program... with caveats

Postby DANL » Fri Feb 04, 2005 1:15 pm

I happened across a program named Photo Filtre a while back and thought some forum folks might be interested.

I've worked with Photoshop, Corel Photopaint, Paint Shop Pro, and many of the small photo programs that come with digital cameras. They each have good and not so good aspects. Photo Filtre falls closer to Paint Shop Pro than any of the others as far as features but it has a few "one-button" features that might be especially appealing to folks on this forum.

It will quickly and easily resize your photos (separately or in batch mode)to whatever size you want. Resizing to about 300 x 400 pixels creates images that up-and-download pretty quickly and don't take up a ton of space on the servers.

Other buttons allow for quickly adjusting brightness, contrast, sharpness, etc. It also has many of the more advanced feature one expects from a good graphics program.

The nicest feature is that it is FREE. A less nice feature is that the help help file is neither interactive nor as extensive as more expensive programs. If you have any experience with photo software, you can easily figure out most functions just by opening the menus or hovering the mouse button over an icon to see the pop-up info. And there is a categorey called "Information" under the "?" section of the menu line that gives a pretty good idea of what each feature can do.

So, if you are looking for an easy, fast, free photo program, follow this link to Photo Filtre. It's a quick 1.6 Mb download.

p.s. It's comes from France (program and related files in English) in case that is an issue for anyone.

p.p.s. NO INTENT TO START A PHOTO PROGRAM WAR HERE.
The tiny trailer in the avatar is designed to carry our recumbents and sometimes sleep in. We LOVE having a kitchen in the woods and a place for most of our gear.
