The Tin Roof Woody is DONE!!

Postby Joseph » Mon May 31, 2004 6:23 am

Finally got it finished! I do wish I’d done like Mike and kept better track of the actual time spent in construction, but I may be able to go back & figure it out. Anyway, a little under a year in the making – started last July. Here’s a photo of the curb side rear and another of the street side rear.

Next weekend – trial run.

Joseph,
Very nice! I like the open-ness of the galley to the interior. Not something I've seen alot of.
You've done such a nice job, the wood looks so nice!

Thanks Bev! I've only "seen" it done on one other teardrop - a photo of one that I found somewhere on the Internet. I don't think it was at a gathering - IIRC it was inside some kind of warehouse.

Looks very nice Joseph! Definitely a woody. And I like the openness too!

That will definitely turn some heads, both on the road and in the campground.

I like it Joseph! Very nice trailer you got there. Maybe we'll all see it at Minden next June?

Nice Joseph!

Only a few potential drawbacks... bugs... but more importantly you have to make sure you make the bed everyday for folks walking by :P

How about a one way mirror between galley and cabin?

Be sure to take some shots of your trial run!

Hey Dave,

I'm thinking of a bug screen that attaches via velcro. And I always make my bed - years of Navy training, I guess...

Thanks for all the good words, Steve, but I'm afraid not. I had hoped to go and even made reservatoions but as it turns out, I have business trips on either side of that weekend that make it impossible for me to make the run up north.

Next year for sure!

That's one beautiful teardrop you've got there. You have done yourself proud. Now it's time to take it out and enjoy your craftmanship. Maybe we can meet up somewhere this summer or fall.

Joseph.

Looks great! Good luck with your trial run

Any idea about the total dry weight? As I recall, you used 1/8" plywood sandwiching foam and minimal framing for the sides.

Thanks Rik! Actually I used 3mm plywood, slightly less than 1/8" - I weighed nearly everything before it was installed including the pieces of the frame before assemly, so it's about 700 lbs. I'll try to run it by a truck scale this weekend anyway, just to be certain.

Did you also weigh the glue and the screws before applying? LOL

Be curious to know how your actual weight compares with your estimated weight!

No, but I added a "fudge factor" of five pounds. Given that I went though at least two boxes of screws and about six large tubes of construction adhesive, that might not be quite enough, but it should be pretty darn close.

Water Tank

Postby Larry Messaros » Wed Jun 02, 2004 11:57 pm

Looks great Joseph!

I noticed your water tank. What are the dimensions, how many gallons does it hold, and where did you get it?:?:

Thanks
