WoooooHoooo !

Postby Wild Mike » Mon Jun 14, 2004 9:30 am

Well ... my first night was trial by fire ... Ok by rain ! Our scout troop went camping on my Father-in-laws 17acres on a small creek. Set up for my tear was a breeze !!! I just unhooked it ... slipped in the two rear stablizer legs and set up a new 10x10 canopy (I found at Family Dollar for 15 bucks!).

Finally went to bed about 11:00 ... Scouts were still on the snipe hunt  About 12:30 it started thundering and lightning and dumping tons of rain. I had the canopy set over most of the tear ... but left one side hanging out to test the weather proofing. After a very long night (it didn't stop raining or thundering) and about 45 minutes of sleep ... I got up dry and comfy :D :D We got about 2" of rain overnight and most of the scouts were sleeping in our cars. The rain just beaded up and ran off my tear ! With the top vent cracked just a bit and the little window in the rear open, every gust of wind would create a little breeze in the tear.

I am so pleased with tear and its performace. And towing it ... its like theres nothing back there! Now I have to make a set of fenders and paint the interior.

I parked it at home and had to make a roadtrip to take my daughter to a camp were she will spend two weeks as a councilor ... a 9 hour round trip. It was about 8:00 when my wife and I got home and she said can we cehck out the tear ? So we both climbed in and spent a few minutes laying there with the roof vent opend all the way ... it makes a great view looking up as you lay there. And she says ... whats a close campground that we could go NEXT weekend ? :o WooooooHooooo :D :D

Thanks for all the info you guys sahre here !

Sounds like a great time Mike! Good photo op too... did you take any shots of your tear in that storm? A few lightnight bolts overhead perhaps? :)

Actually any photos of your setup would be great.

Sounds like you had a great time Mike. I like the way your tear is built with no kitchen. Keep us posted. Glad you enjoyed the camping trip.

Well the way I see it is ... if the scouts would have been sleeping on an air mattress they could have floated on the 2-3 inches of water in their tents ... But NOOOOOOOOO they just kind of got a little wet.

2 of the tents were older wall tents with no rain flys. An old scoutmaster was with us and he was just fine and interesting enough the 2 youngest scouts were fine too !

Of course later in the morning when it was time to head home the inside windows of my truck looked like a tropical rain forest. It's amazing how much moisture 2 sleeping boys can generate with no ventilation.

An Dave ... thats what the little window is for  Unfortunately my dog sheds so bad it would be a mess inside my tear if we took her camping.

Picked up the paint last night to do the interior ... so back to work.
