Yes but guessing not so much in WY. If you live near parts of the country that have a strong wooden boatbuilding tradition you can. You can order plywood up to 32' long from Boulter Plywood last time I checked, it's just 8' plywood that comes prescarfed together.

Not 5'x10' but you can get 4'x10' MDO which is an exterior grade plywood faced with a resin impregnated paper on one or both sides from luber yards or sign shops (it's used for signs a lot).

I am buying a sheet of hardwood ply for the floor of my new TD. The size is 10 foot x five foot, 1/2" thick. For the sides I want some plywood that is much lighter. I have to get 8 foot x 4 foot, 1/2" thick. I might go for 15mm thick which is .590" thick. This will be in construction grade selected pine plywood. Slow, you should be able to buy a 10 x 5 sheet of ply. This is a standard size. I was quite surprised that I could buy this size sheet over here but was told it's a common size used for building houses.

About 10 years ago I found 5' X 10' in 3/4". The place now has only 5' X 9' in 1/2 inch and I've yet to find anything bigger in Los Angeles.

Cheers,

Gus

Slowcowboy,
I noticed your posting as I started my research prior to my 1st teardrop build. Noted you are in Pavillion and I am just down the road in Casper. How far along are you on your teardrop? Did you ever solve the 5X10 plywood dilemma? I'm using the Grumman2 5X10 design.

I guess we're lucky here in Fort Worth. There's a place called Plywood Company that has just about any type of plywood you can imagine (except marine plywood.) They have Douglas fir plywood in 5' x 10' sheets.

They sell plywood by the sheet or bundle and treat the little guy like he's a major purchaser. The only negative is that they aren't open on Saturday.

You can get 5x10 around here, but it's so price prohibitive I'd opt to just splice.

I'm down in Cheyenne and it is impossible to get anything in Wyoming larger than 4x8 unless you want to buy 40 of them. You might get lucky if you head down to Denver but that is your only option, and expect that you will be paying a 3x premium at least.

I would go with a splice. I used a half-lap splice and with the stresses on the tear it will not be an issue. Good luck!

I'm sure if screws and more plywood would be the best solution, here's what I did. 3.5" half-lap joint, 1/2 the thickness of the plywood, then glue along the joint and add some pressure (a pack of roof shinges worked well haha). In the end you get a full length sheet which is flush across the seam and no extra wood is needed to reinforce the splice. Just an idea. :D

You can also contact Sign companies near you Slow. They usually have 3/4" Sign Board in 4x10 and 5x10 they might sell you once they know what you're doing with it.

When you splice do it in the area of the door and the splice will be a none problem strength wise and be hardly noticable.Larry

Hey Slow,

I found a thread from another forum member in Casper who managed to find 4x10 plywood sheets at Menards.

198.00 CAD per sheet. Great stuff to work with but heavy..
Looks like maple. I epxyed the finish in bright blue. The wood grain is amazing.
