It has begun!

Postby JamesW » Thu Aug 05, 2004 9:49 pm

I have finally placed some pictures on my web site! I have decided to build a "TD". I got a 4 x 8 trailer for $1.00 and a twelve pack of Corona. It needed a lot of work! I was going to grind at it with an angle grinder but that got old fast. I sent it to a sand blaster. Now it is painted black and the floor is on. I received my 5 x 10 sheets of plywood today and will cut the profile over the next couple of days. By the way, the design I chose is also on the site. I do not recall who it was that posted it but thanks for the idea!

Looks like you really have a great start and the trailer is taking shape nicely. I'm thinking sandblasting the frame was a good idea. Keep the pix coming and best of luck to you.

Gee that design looks awfully familiar. I am excited to see one of my designs actually built. That one was only a concept I was toying with. Make sure you check out my site and I think you will se some nice features you may want to incorporate in to this one.

By the way, the trailer as I designed it is 5' high, 9' long, and 5' wide. If you do not make it at least 5' wide you will have trouble fitting the table in there properly, and you will not be able to get a queen sized bed in there. 4' is barely wide enough for a full. That can be really cramped with two adults.

I could not remember who designed it. TNX! I am actually going to modify it a little. I am not going to build it where the whole side lifts up. It will just have a door on the port and starboard side. I chose it because of the raised bed allowing for a seating area. I have already sized the table and it is big enough for me, my wife and son to play cards... As far as the bed. I have only been married for going on 2 years so we are still very much in love. :)

James,
Well, at least someone is in love around here!

If one can fit a table inside, I think it's always a nice added feature to have.

Looks good!

#3 will have a table inside it too! It's going to be 5' wide also. I'm toying with the idea of making it a curved weekender. I might even build it next weekend if the weather holds, and my design is sufficiently complete! 8)

Mike...

P.S. It's going to be our "mad dash" teardrop! Thanks to Grant for the term!!!

Anyone clever enough to tell me why I can't access James' site? The link above gives me a directory listing of .jpg files in his /teadrop directory but I get a 403 access forbidden if I click on one of them.

Am this one o' them furriner traps I heared about?

Being in love or being cozy has nothing to do wih anything. Try mocking up a 4' space and lying down in it together, you will see that it becomes very difficult to do things like strecth out, roll over, etc.
Also if you are going to be camping with a child, a 5' wide trailer will allow you to have a decent size bunk like in Andrews 2+2

The problem is that some browsers are set up to give you an error (because of security) when trying to view things other than actual web pages. A broswer will look for a php, asp, html tag, etc. But it will see other things as a security risk. He needs to put those pics in to some sort of album, or at least write an html page to contain them.

James if you need somebody to set up an album for you, let me know and I will help out.

For the record, James' site let me in once I had switched off the option in Norton Internet Security that blocks sending information about sites visited.

Me? Paranoid? Not if I keep this tinfoil hat on, I ain't....
