Done - Finally

Postby dakippen » Tue May 23, 2017 8:45 pm

I haven't had time to update my build journal, but my Max is done and passed the first roadtrip test. We started Feb. 4 and finished May 7th. Building Max came with many bumps in the road - it seemed nothing went right or as it should. And when the hatch had to be rebuilt, hubby was ready to set fire to Max. But we persevered, got the new hatch built and pushed forward. If I had a dollar for every time I heard hubby say "I really hate Max", I could probably retire. But this was my summer toy and we got to the point where we weren't giving up now. Now that I have the maiden voyage under my belt, any future projects will be based on the little stuff and trying to figure out where and how to store everything.

But in the long run - to me, Max is amazing! The perfect size for me and once in a while, hubby. And Max turned out better than I could ever imagine. I know I will NEVER do this again and will enjoy Max until I'm ready to retire. I learned a lot from perusing the forums here and just trial and error. And going on a wing and a prayer...but if you're one of those still on the fence, just do it. You'll never know until you try.

Congratulations on the build and first trip! That is a nice looking design and something you will always cherish. However, never say never. I would not be surprised if 6 months or a year from now you begin to think "hmmm, if I built another one, what would I do different?" :D

For now, enjoy it!

Thank you! We did pine tongue and groove and ended up carrying this through with the counter top in the galley.

I don't think so Brian - it's a bit out my range for this year...still have places to get to here in MN, WI and MI.

Thank you everyone! I/we now have a second trip done and in the books. From here on out, it will be mostly me and Max hitting the road. Hubby did say, "it's not bad", but he still hates Max. Now I'm in the figuring out storage and where to put everything stage and I have to believe that will be a never ending process.
