Roof AC issue

Postby drcurran » Mon Jul 03, 2017 3:10 pm

Don't know where to put this so I'm giving this a shot. Our roof top AC (ducted) was working great, then all of a sudden it stopped. When I turn it on at the thermostat I can hear the compressor come on, but no cold air. I got up on the roof, removed the shroud, had my wife turn it on, and same thing, compressor (I guess that what it is call) comes on, but the fan does not turn. The fan will turn easily, does not seem to be restricted in any way. Filters are clean. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Dan

Things to look for would be a loose wire/bad connection on the fan speed switch.Another thing to look at would be the fan motor start capacitor could have crapped out.
Lastly but not likely the fan motor went out.

I 2nd checking the wire connections first, then the capicator and motor last. Was there any indication of of something wrong before the fan stopped working?

No indication of any issues. No noise or anything. I appreciate the suggestions just wish I knew better how to figure which wires to check.

What brand of rooftop AC do you have? Coleman or Dometic/Duo Therm are the most common. Also does your thermostat have a separate fan switch on it? Possibly with "Fan On" "Auto" and "Off" ? With some more information someone here may be able to point you in the right direction.

The unit is a Coleman and the thermostat has two slide switches.
