Boreal 3 – Maiden Voyage

Postby Boreal » Fri Aug 18, 2017 4:29 pm

Call this the shakedown cruise. First of all, a link to a little video I put together:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSJoOCKkVtU

Back in July 2014, we started running across a lot of these unique little beasties called "teardrops". We fell i love immediately. The only problem was that very very few of them came equipped to sleep 3. So in London, at the beginning of a year long trip around the world, I began sketching out designs and trying to figure stuff out. In March 2016, I finally bought the trailer, and began a very sparsely updated build journal (http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=65677).

Honestly, the process wasn't that hard, but then again, I've built houses. The true challenge qas to fit in quality building time while juggling our teaching careers, daughter, and wine drinking. However, in July of 2017, after about six months of actual dedicated work, we finally rolled out on our shakedown cruise. We call it the Boreal 3 (you can watch the video to find out why).

She's not 100% done, but since the video I've done some end grain sealing, painted some of the exterior hatches, installed gas struts, and compelted the shore connection and all the wiring. Still a bit of fit an finish to go, but she's a fully operational battle station. Er, teardrop. Had her out for 11 days of my 40 vaycation this summer. More trips to come, for sure, including edging intot he shoulder season. Just because it's so easy to get out now.

I'd be very happy if you took the time to watch my video, like it (if you do) and share it around. In the meantime, some pics:

Finally, and if you've made it down this far, then you're the ones I want to talk too, thanks for all the advice, questions answered, and collective time in helping me get this project not only underway, but completed.

Cheers

Fun Video.
But pretty plain (did not want to say boring) campground.

You might want to meet us (Tear Jerkers Fall Crawl Participants) in Newport Wa. Sept. 1 to 4th for the Camp Runamuck Vintage Trailer Rally
or the entire Fall Crawl if you wish.
There will be at least 10 of us at this first stop of our adventure. :wine:

Hah! You vandal, you home wrecker! But quite right you are.

This was a dark sky astronomical preserve. Basically, a well mowed field with an outhouse, kitchen shelter, and very strict light protocols after 8pm. Boring as it was, it's smack dab in the middle of agricultural foothills Alberta.

Lemme pull up a pic of the surrounding area, which had its own beauty.

But yeh, you're not wrong. We've had, and will continue to have better.

That's only about 6 hours away, definitely doable on a long weekend. We did tentatively have a commitment that was only 2 hours away, so this would be a hard sell with the family. But I'll see.

Are there details somewhere?
