Unusual Example of Car Components

Postby mezmo » Mon Nov 13, 2017 3:39 am

As we all know, a lot of the early home-built trailers used repurposed components from the autos of their time. Here's a simple one that a Rolls-Royce owner recycled from his 1933 Rolls and towed with his 1936, way back when... https://www.ebay.com/itm/One-of-a-kind- ... wu&vxp=mtr The main items used were the front axle and wheels for the running gear and the roof canopy frame/bows for the tent support on this minimal tent trailer...

quite similar to the one my grandfather built in the 1930's out of Model A Ford running gear

the remains of ours is sitting in the weeds & black berry thicket out back

over the years it saw at least 2 rebuildings/renovations that i am aware of and had a cooler added to the front that would keep a 25# block of ice for a week

sadly one of the jobs that was done removed the original hitch coupler that the then keeper was too lazy to keep adjusted and was replaced w/ one made in a far off land :-(

it traveled all over the southwest from the gulf coast to the continental divide

GOOD THREAD

brings back rememberies of wonderful times :-)
