12 volt smart TV?

Postby daytimer » Thu Nov 15, 2018 8:41 pm

So, I'm an electronics geek... I am looking for a 12 volt smart TV to install in my big Woody that I am building. Probably no more than 15" screen. I've searched online and can't seem to find just the right one.
Any suggestions?

I went to Best Buy and bought one of their house brand Insignia TVs with a 12V power brick. I ran it straight off the battery for awhile with no issues but got to worrying about over-volting it when the PV charger had the battery voltage up at 14.4V or so. Installed a 12V power conditioner and it has been running like a champ for 7 years now. My 24" LED TV draws about 18Watts. Here's the regulator I used:
Carnetics eBay Linky
I'm also running a Kodi box with 18TB of media but that's another post. ;-)

High-res computer monitor, + soundbar if you don't have speakers

Roku, Kodi, Chromecast etc to feed it, PC, tablet, phone can cast to it as well. BubbleUPNP from Android

I ordered one of these https://www.axessusa.com/product/tvd180 ... dvd-player
Looks like it will do what I want. Not too big, not too small.

There are a lot of 12V TV's on the market but none that I've seen that are smart. I would honestly suggest just using a chromecast, FireStick, or Roku. I fine the smart TV's to actually be a bit to slow and laggy for me. Plus when the software gets out of date your stuck with a useless smart TV and you'll need to add a firestick anyway. Just a thought.
