Move the Axil - Revisited

Postby greenchicken » Tue Dec 11, 2018 11:00 pm

Hi,

I already started on thread on this.... but I forgot and started a new one... sorry.

Anyway... here are some updated details. Opinions welcomed.

My 5x8 trailer is assembled and this weekend I will build the deck.

The axil is located at 43 inches, about 4 inches back from center.

If I need to move it I would have to 8 inches to clear the middle bolts.

This would make it 35 inches.

Not sure how to calcite the ratio. But as a percentage
I am currently at: 44% of center.
I can move it to 36% of center.

So the question is, can I leave it as is or do I need to move it.

My preference is NOT to move it.

The relevant factor is the tow ball weight after the buildout, should be 8-12% of the total.

This is important to safety, although good brakes on the trailer and just driving slower goes a long way to mitigate suboptimal weight distribution.

Where you place your propane, batteries, water/waste tanks will have a great impact.

My Galley will be extremely minimal. It will be more for storing misc stuff. I have no interest in cooking in the galley.

I plan to have a trunk in the front with two batteries.

I am considering putting the water tank there too, Have an electric pump the pushes the water through a pvc 3/4 pipe to the back for a a little sink for washing up...

..although I am not sure I want that either. I camp a mammoth lake and you need to keep all food locked up and away from your tent. So washing my dirty pots and pan at the trailer could be an issue.

Take a look here and then there is a spreadsheet that is super helpful at the bottom of the page
