American dog in Ontario

Postby TimC » Fri Aug 16, 2019 5:12 pm

I'm planning a trip around Lake Superior and will likely bring along Fido. In what I have read a rabies vaccination document and possibly a health statement from our Vet should get us in at Pigeon River and and back across at the Soo. Any recent experiences to the contrary would be good to hear.

Thanks
Tim

The Canadian governemnt has a webpage with relevant info

https://travel.gc.ca/returning/customs/ ... -to-canada

copied from the page.....
The rabies vaccination certificate must:
be written in English or French;
be issued and signed by a licensed veterinarian;
identify the animal (breed, sex, colour, and weight);
state that the animal is vaccinated against rabies;
indicate the date of vaccination;
indicate the trade name and the serial number of the licensed vaccine; and
specify the duration of immunity (otherwise, it will be considered valid for one year from the date of vaccination).

Thanks Mtn Don and Shadow Catcher. I should have everything I need. I'll get a short letter from the Vet spelling out anything not in the rabies certificate.

Shadow Catcher, I was planning on going around L Superior and would be going through the Agawa area. I checked for reservations and they are booked pretty solid the last week of August. I'm guessing that is a very popular place. As I looked north and west along the lake things opened up considerably. If I come through I might PM you to see if you're still around. I don't have a firm trip time frame yet though.

I did the round Lake Huron trip in July via roads. It was interesting, but, I feel nothing like L Superior. I've done the Manitoulin Is (S. Baymouth) to Tobermory route around Georgian Bay. The expense of the ferry, even round trip was worth it even though I missed the Espanola to Barrie section the first time. I didn't camp on Manitoulin, but, I understand it is an awesome boondocking experience.

We will be there September 6th which is after they stop taking reservations and when school is in session for them.
One of the things we have found is that folks make reservations and do not come so sites are available.
Cell service is iffy and through Rogers. The only cell tower at LSPP is at the East end of the park. I have a cell phone booster and directional antenna and Verizon has a travel pass program and our phones do not work in Canada but the Mifi does.
