HEAT!

Postby booyah » Tue Aug 27, 2019 1:30 pm

Sorry I know I've posted about it before, but I wanted to take a second to pimp the best teardrop heater I've found.

If you have 110v seriously look at this little guy
https://www.amazon.com/Ontel-Handy-Heat ... 01L9UKAHM/

its only 400w, but in the limited space of an insulated teardrop, I have kept it a toasty 70 inside below freezing outside. Two speed fan, adjustable temp digital thermostat, its really slick for under $20.

We had the TD out this last weekend when it was getting into the 40s overnight and my daughter didnt pack for the weather, made for a nice place for her to hang out to keep out of the cool.

Seriously considering a second one and doing more mid winter camping.
My build, 5x8 modified benroy "Smiles to go". Started April 2nd 2015, first trip August 2nd 2015.

I put the electric heaters to the extreme test last winter during a -5F cold snap.
For moderate temps you might be good.

At -5F I needed a 1500 watt heater to make it toasty warm in my teardrop.

Quiet enough for me - 2 speed and found it good enough for heating up the trailer when the temp was in the 20s. Within an hour the inside trailer temp was in the 50/60s which is warn enough for me. I than normally turn it off when I get in and don't need it once I am under the covers. I like this heater being it just plugs into the electrical plug in - there is no power cord to worry about getting in the way.

When the fan is set to low, its no louder than my fantastic fan on speed 1

Personally I like white noise when I sleep, so its nearly perfect for me.

As I said, my TD is a small one (8x5), is R5 insulated on all sides (bottom, top, in each side wall, and the wall to the hatch as well), I have the foam core doors also, so mine may be "warmer" than others, but one of these works well to keep me in the high 60s inside when its below freezing outside. This weekend in the 40s I slept most of the night with no blankets and just house jammies.

Booyah - it's like we have the same trailer and I again have to 'second' every thing you just said - the fantastic fan sound comparison is a very good one (and mine is also a 5x8 'Benroy' shape of a teardrop) 156749

From what I read, sounds like quite a nice little heater!

Has an auto-shutoff that can be defeated fairly easily if required. Yet that's a 12hr shutoff and most of us wouldn't have it on that long..

I have a 750w unit, yet have a larger space to heat (3x you folks) and works great! 400w! Ya, that's a nice unit!

Thanks for sharing!

 and how "scary close" it almost could have been - I just a few weeks ago veered north at Ames, Iowa into Minnesota before heading back home instead of traveling onto Brooklyn, Michigan as was in the original plan when the trip started the end of July.

HEAT! I thought this thread might be about keeping cool from the heat.
We've just wrapped up 21 days straight with highs over 100 degrees and most of those days were highs between 104 and 106 with nasty humidity.

But, it will be cool again some day during our two weeks of winter or we may be in the mountains sometime, so a heater sounds nice! I'll bookmark the heater on Amazon!

Are you running this from shore power? If not, how many amps does it draw?

reading the side of the "Handy Heater" it shows 400W(25C) and 350W(25C) for power. I do not see any 'AMP' rating in their power rating label and when I have used mine, it has always been on shore power.

Watts divided by volts equals amps.
Amps multiplied by volts equals watts!
Conversion works for for 110AC and 12V DC

And a pint is a pound the world around!
