Tankless Hotwater Heater Flue Options

Postby Patrick Star » Thu Sep 05, 2019 4:43 pm

Hi, I have on hand one of the 8L eBay Chinese tankless hotwater heaters and am trying to come up with a sensible way to vent it. I do not know much about the flue, but am skeptical about cutting a hole in the roof of my camper. As of now I take cold showers, but would need a stainless flue as I only camp on the beach

I would say more, but I'm at a loss, lol

I have considered just putting it outside, but wind would be an issue, I would store it in the camper when not in use, just run some hoses to feed my shower

I have a tankless hot water heater setup also. I built a vented box outside of my trailer and ran pex pipes to 4 corners of my trailer with threaded 1/2 male faucets. I I can just hook up a shower hose in any of the faucets and use the hot water. I didn’t want t set it up inside for 2 reasons: carbon monoxide and water leak. The setup I have now solved both of those issues for me.

You can kind of see how it looks outside and inside ...

Not sure about the configuration of your particular model but I mounted an EccoTemp L5 under my sink and used a standard 12 x 4 torpedo boot to exhaust horizontally then hacked a triple wall flue from standard HVAC parts through the sidewall. The heater and boot stand off metal covered wood surfaces 3 inches. I cap the outside with a hinged lid of matching siding when not in use.
