WIFI or Bluetooth back up camera

Postby TimC » Thu Apr 16, 2020 5:38 pm

I'm looking for a reasonably priced (<$75) back up camera for my teardrop. I can easily provide 12v power for its use. Nothing real fancy, just need it for backing up into a camping spot. Should work with android or have its own screen.

I don't know if bluetooth is a real thing with these. And I don't understand the WIFI ones. Is that basically like bluetooth? I don't need a router to send it signals do I?

I don't really know much about these and I'm afraid to just buy one off ebay that looks like it might work. I don't want to write code to get it working either : ) Something simple an old fart can hook up and use.

Thanks
Tim

We have a Podofo https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Waterproof-Vehicle-Assistance-Motorhome/dp/B074DQT8GC and there is some interfearence. The camera is powered by the running lights. We are running it wireless.

I ran into a guy with a very large camping trailer. He had wireless cameras on the back and each side. I asked him about the back camera being so far from his pickup. He said he moved the wireless transmitter to the front of the trailer with longer wires. I don't even know how the wireless camera is configured so I can't explain more.

You might want to try a camera first to see if you like it. You can download a free app such as IPCamera to turn one of your old smartphone, or your wife's phone, into a wifi hotspot broadcasting video. Use your good phone in the vehicle to receive the signal. If you like it, it looks like wifi cameras and displays are real cheap now. Such as this:

I tried out the smart phone camera thing, but I really just prefer to use my mirrors. However, there is the odd time, such as when there is a fire pit of picnic table directly behind the trailer that a camera would be handy.

Sounds pretty close to writing code in my book  :FNP

JK!

I might give it a go if I can get one of my millennials to guide me...

They are so cheap now it is amazing. Here is another link to Banggood. Virtually all electronics come from China but Banggood also has a USA warehouse. So you can order from the USA warehouse and get your merchandise in a few days rather than many weeks from China. I am in Canada so it shows a price of $42.80 CDN, that is about $30-$31 USD.

I recently discovered a "sports" video camera with wifi. It's an Akaso EK7000 for around fifty bucks. Wondering if anyone has experience with this model as a backup camera for your trailer.

It is similar to a GoPro though much cheaper. I really don't want a 7" screen in my PV to have to mount and manage. The Akaso broadcasts through a phone if I am understanding it correctly.

Thanks,
Tim
