Minimalist boat

I came across this kayak. $350 and very minimal.
Takes up very little space!

I always like the potra boat. Can fit several people, can take a motor. Fold up flat, couple of mins to set up. I have actually spoken to an owner and they liked it.

Unfortunately this boat received a bad review from Gear Lab. Oru Inlet is a much better choice.

I have a friend who has one of these and she really likes it.
I'd compare it to any general recreation boat, big cockpit, short waterline, wide hull.

Its no sea kayak, but compared to say a perception swifty or the equivalent I'd say this is a winner.
She can carry it without issue, assemble it herself in a minute or two, and put it in the back of her Prius so no roof rack required.

Seems like a deal at $350. I might get one myself, not as a replacement to my sea kayaks, but as a way to augment them for trips where I dont want to bring a 14-17 ft boat :-)

The ORU may be a better boat, but at $900 it is more than double the price.

I might toss a $350 chip onto the table and spin the wheel. Limited use case as I do my "real" kayak fishing with a Hobie Outback, but she's 130# without all my gear.

This, or something very like, would be something I could use in certain quiet water bays to get over to clamming beds.

I have had the Oru Inlet out many times now. Its a really good fit for my teardrop. Weighs only 22 pounds! It sets up and takes down VERY fast and conveniently. When in the back country I pull over and paddle any water that looks interesting. 5 min set up/take down is true. I don't fish but I can see how this could be a great addition to the tackle box. Its small enough I can always fit it in the tow vehicle. This is a flat water boat but very portable! The hiking boots, mountain bike and kayak are now part of the standard exploration gear for the trailer.
Besides weight and small packed size the thing that makes it work so well (for me) is the super fast easy bud and tear down.

Happy camping

Its a great way to travel eh?

Heading up in a week or so to the upper peninsula of Michigan with the sea kayak, bike, and teardrop for fall colors. Can hardly wait!

I have been thinking of making a dinghy type of boat to carry along. The boat is either an Elegant Punt or Rubins Nymph by Bolger and Payton. These are short and fat to carry a load, sail, motor or row. Many other similar designs to study.

You can take almost any small wooden boat and saw it in half to be bolted back together. Why? So it is easy to transport. Called nesting boats.
