Do I need an “active” vent

Postby Granitedrop » Sat Sep 03, 2022 7:57 am

I’m planning out my foamie teardrop and I’m wondering if I need a vent fan or if a roof vent would be sufficient. I’ll have wiley windows so there should be good airflow. I also live in New Hampshire so I’m not dealing with like Arizona level heat.

Get the fan. They're expensive but they're worth it.

We've run our fan all night on a few occasions in New Hampshire and Vermont during Summer nights. Had a bad battery for awhile and tried to turn off the fan, but it became too stuffy. Had door windows all the way open which offers more flow (if anything) than Wiley windows.

I agree, you need a fan. I was at Allis State Park in Vermont last month for 10 days, and the fan cooled the camper down quickly after it sat in the sun all day. It also mitigated stuffiness at night. Even in cold weather, you can use it to exchange humid stuffy air for fresh air in just a few seconds. Sometimes we use it for white noise also if we happen to be camped near noisy neighbors.

I'll agree with the previous replies. I could not imagine being without a ceiling fan. I made it a point to have a number of windows with screens and 2 pop open vents. When I put the fan on it pulls air in from the outside via the windows and vents and expels any warm air out through the fan. Reduces any stuffiness, it's "almost" like air conditioning. And, as Lauren said, the white noise is nice (or can be nice).

I bought my first teardrop in 2004. It didn't have a ceiling vent fan. Never again...

Teardrops really really need a ceiling vent fan and two screened windows.
