Propane Detector-Do you have one?

Postby Capebuild » Thu Apr 06, 2023 7:21 am

I'm revising the way the propane feeds my stove (which slides in and out in the galley). Currently the connection is made on the outside of the trailer from the propane tank mounted on the trailer's exterior sidewall. I'm changing this so the propane hose will go through the side wall, run though the trailer interior and connect to the stove inside the galley (around where the blue dot is in the attached photo). I'm thinking it's probably a good idea to install a propane detector in the trailer's interior.

Anyone else have a detector installed in their trailer? Just curious. Thanks

John

The reason they put Ethyl Mercaptan in propane is because it skinks so bad anyone should be able to smell a small leak unless say..covided kill your sense of smell. They're $20 on Amazon so I will probably get one being I am storing the bottle (1lb) under the countertop connected to the stove. It's about the only thing I haven't bought yet.

My interior connection to the Propex heater is with copper pipe. I did buy a handheld combustible gas sniffer to check for leaks around the fittings, and all is well. (I’ve used it at home to check the connections to our gas appliances too.) Your stove will be connected by a flexible hose though, because it has to slide?

Edit: Be sure to use a high quality propane hose (like the Mr. Buddy brand) for your stove. Propane reacts with something in cheap rubber propane hoses and a greasy ooze collects in the hose and then gums up your stove’s regulator and burners.

Even though my Propex is connected by a hard line, I should probably have one too. Is there an all in one smoke, CO, and propane detector that has a small footprint for our tiny trailers? I’ll be interested to see what you go with.

Who needs a propane detector? It'll be obvious if there's a thinking because you're problem will become fuzzy (maybe permanently), your writing will slurred, and your become speech messed up all will be!

Anywho, when in match, light a doubt!
