I read a newspaper article this AM that said nearly half of Canadian residents in recent survey wanted to wait until September at earliest and require proof of immunization.

I feel bad for tourism businesses if Trudeau goes with this plan.

Over half (52%) wanted it opened for summer. And Trudeau has said 75% with first dose is one criterion. Could happen by June 21. I wish US would help with vaccine passport.

Canada is so far behind with Vaxx'ing that I would not expect reopening for tourism this year.. My opinion based on only 5% of the population being vaxx'ed (as of 27 May). Mexico is doing a better job of it!!

They are ahead of US with percentage of people with one dose - and one dose is 80-85% effective, versus 90-95% for two, and very effective for preventing hospitalizations. And fewer vax deniers in Canada as well.

I believe their one dose and longer wait for second strategy will prove a winner.

Initially, for most people it was to be 16 weeks between the first and second dose but that's coming down. It was just announced that in Ontario everyone who wants it will receive their second dose by the end of August.

I agree Canada is making remarkable progress after their initial supply delays. Its why I remain optimistic for a summer opening and am ready to drive across border. Hoping NY crossings to Canada will accept NY Excelsior pass for proof of vaccination. If our leaders can just convince the anti-vaxxers to get vaccinated.

I agree with ya Qbill. Though i hope that us common folks will prove to be the ones doing most of the convincing. So far all of my relations have been poked with one exception. My son in law seems to use the excuse that he is worried about long term effects. Next time I see him I am going to ask how he views the long term effects of eating venison all year without having his kills tested for CWD. That should be an interesting conversation.

Another example of how media can spin anything - "almost half" want to wait sounds way different from 52% want reopening! Sounds like Canada must be pretty evenly split like the US.

The MSM (Ministry of Smoke and Mirrors) has kept us all woefully uninformed and at each other's throats for well over a year. Absolutely despicable. Vaccine passports? Abject lunacy. All that will accomplish is MORE division and a black market for forgeries.

Fewer maybe overall, but "denyism" in the SE of Manitoba is why MB has been the worst place to be in all of North America for about the past 2 weeks.

Different polling but what I find reported is around 20% of US population say they definitely won't be vaccinated versus just 10% of Canadians. Practically reason to immigrate to Canada.
