Does anyone know what will dissolve lithium grease?

Postby Joseph » Fri Apr 22, 2005 11:55 am

I used blue lithium grease on my HF bearings and can no longer get the same stuff. I'd like to switch to a synthetic grease but I understand it's a bad idea to mix lubricants as they can work against each other and break down. Basically, I need to clean the old lithium grease out of my bearings but to my surprise acetone doesn't cut the stuff. Anybody know what does?

Thanks,

Joseph

I don't know why I thought I'd used lithium grease. When I pulled the canister out of the grease gun it was plain old general purpose grease. But in any case, gasoline did the trick.

Thanks,

Gasoline is a miracle liquid. It does everything, and you can sniff it. :?

Grease

Next time try WD-40. Even on old caked grease zips right off, also good on road tar on the teardrop. Spray and lightly rub.
